Hi Guys,
I've just started a small business at weekends, and then hopefully once the silly season is out of the way going at it full time.
My question is this, have any of you done this? did it work out?
Cheers
Hi There,
I was part of a small business that worked weekends and then went full time in 1995
It was a small hand car wash (mad when you think it was probably one of the first ever and now they are all over) the guys who started it worked full time so only worked weekends, It was in a great location with massive footfall (wheelfall) and I approached them to see if they wanted to move to full time if I came on board, within 2 months we had gotten an agreement and withing 3 weeks I was earning a good wage from it.
It can work as long as you are prepaired to stick at it and work hard.
Darren
Cheers mate. I think starting small and working up is the best option. The plan is hopefully to secure my families future and hopefully the boys may want in on it when they're older
What's the business?
Darren
Its a Carpet and Vinyl supply and fitting business
Well everyone needs flooring so sounds like a good plan.
Might be worth thinking about doing camper and caravan floors too, as you could use off cuts to cover floors as they are smaller, the camper conversion market is big business especailly over the winter months, you could look at adverts in local papers of the VW/camper magazines.
Darren
Nice one mate. That's a great idea and one that I never even thought of
No problem
I am in the process of opening my own landscape gardening business working part-time for now during the wetter seasons 🙂
How's that going Chris? (sorry about the late reply :-))
Its going very well and has been for the past 12 months. My wife has been an absolute diamond taking charge of the kids while I'm out and her support has been amazing. Still only running it part time around work and in the new year I'm planning on going on a couple of more courses to learn more skills from brand names that run there own courses to become an approved fitter which will improve my professionsalism.
The main obstacles I have faced have been timing my jobs accurately and keeping upto date with my accounts. This has improved a lot over the last 10 months or so by keeping disciplined and taking 10 - 15 minutes a week inputting income and outgoings etc. Thats all it takes now so alls good.
In the new year we are re branding and looking to look more professional with our image, get the courses done and hopefully look at going full time with it
My wife bless her is an absolute diamond. The amount of support she's shown me has been unbelievable and know it hasn't been easy on her. So we spend time together, she comes out on quotes with me and has even sold a lot of flooring herself lol. Hopefully, in about another 12 months maximum I can run the business full time and all of the hard work so far will be worth it
