I seem to be in an unusual situation. I am a single parent of a 13 year old girl and a 9 year old boy. I am not registered on the birth certificate as the mother lied to me when she registered saying that I was. This is not the main issue though as the mother no longer has anything to do with them and I have a parental responsibility order. But when I recently tried to sort out passports it became apparent that the mother also lied about her second name on the birth certs, I can't prove my children's nationality as neither of their parents are on the birth certificate! I can't find any information on this subject as it always seems to be geared towards problems with the fathers name not the mothers. It seems strange that this could even happen, do you not have to show ID when registering?
Would this be classed as illegal/ fraud? Is there any way that I can get the certs changed without her involvement and without spending a fortune on court costs?
Hi there,
Sorry, I've had a look around but can't find anything that might help answer your question. It might be worth giving Coram a call, they give free child law advice and should be able to point you in the right direction or clear it up

Good luck
Hi there
As you mention, it is a requirement of registration to show proof of identity so I'm surprised this could have happened.
I've had a quick look around and I think it might be a good idea to speak to the department responsible for correcting birth registrations. It might be that you will have to make a statutory declaration under oath. Would you be able to approach the hospital where the children were born to get proof that they were born here?
Here's a link to some information from the Government where you'll find the contact details for the corrections department.

Best of luck
Thanks Mojo, I was clearly half asleep when I was looking last night π
Your suggestion was as helpful Yoda... I'm sure Coram would also be able point peagle in the right direction anyway π
