Hi everyone just after some advice. Me and my ex wife split up and we have shared care of our kids. we get on and no courts needed. Between ourself we decided she would have the child benefit and myself the tax credits. We found out about doing this after phone calls to tax credits and CAB. I just got a letter from tax credits saying they are doing checks on award as kids name for child benefit isnt on my tax credit. So i phoned up and told them why. I have info i have to send in. shopping bills for clothes doctors and dentist info. kids are on my address. What i have done. There isnt a counter claim for the tax credits by the mum. Im just a bit worried as i heard bad stories and dont want my money stopped just before xmas. I have always been truthful about everything. When i spoke to the compliance people they made me feel because i was the dad i normally wouldnt get the tax credits. and all the info they want is for a counter claim. i know this is 100 percent not the case. Has anyone else gone though the same as me
It might be worth having a word with the citizens advice bureau to see if they have any advice on this.
I agree, You can also get some help from your local MP
