My petition:
Reintruduce legal aid for families within the family Courts
Cuts in legal aid are creating chaos in the family Court who warn that the resulting delays are having a serious impact on the children and custody of their children now mostly have to represent themselves in court, and this causes lengthy delays in determining the best outcome for the children,
Like many families father's are missing out on seeing there children and this I find is unacceptable, it has a significant impact on our children as both sets of parents should be able to see there sons/daughters. No children in this country should have not go though not spending time with both sets of parents. But people who have committed a criminal offence get legal aid

Hi There,
.
The link you have posted won't load a page.
.
I think that legal aid for cases where there are serious issues would be a good thing, however I feel that self representing through your own case where things pretty straight forward is actually better than using a solicitor and an old customer of mine who was a family law solicitor completely agreed, he would actually recomend that if a case was straigh forward and was just down to the 2 parties not agreeing that he shouldn't attend, My view and the solicitor agreed that by representing yourself you will put things accross in a informal way so that the judge will gain a better perspective of the issues and will pick up on the emotions involved, when a solicitor speaks for you, everything is black and white, the solicitor has no emotional involement in the case so doesn't feel the pain that a father (or mother) has.
.
It has been known for cases to actually last longer when a solicitor has been used as they have one view and that is what they stick too, so at times where someone self representing would make a compromise to enable things to move forward a solicitor would be sticking to what the law says and try and ensure that is met, which can actually result in longer hearings and more of them.
.
I'm not trying to say that solicitors don't have a place in family law becuase they really do, but I do feel in cases where no allegations are made and it is simply just 2 parent who can't agree that self representation is the best way forward.
.
I will sign the petition if you fix the link becuase as said It isn't fair that claims can be made to make family court harder for parents trying to have a relationship with thier children where they really need some solicitor support but they really can't afford it, even more so when legal aid is still available for mothers who claim DV (i think that is still the case but may be wrong).
