[Solved] Over payment of child maintenance

Am struggling to find a definitive answer about when child maintenance ends. The link on this site says it ends when the course ends. Elsewhere it says beginning of September.
My ex wife told me my 18 year old daughter had signed up for another college course at the beginning of September, but she hadn’t, so I have been making payments for nothing.

So can anyone point me to a site which gives a definitive official answer as to when it should have stopped?

Once a child has left full time education payments usually continue on for a few weeks. For instance a child leaving college at the end of summer term in July, payments would continue until the 1st September.

If you're paying maintenance through the CSA/CMS it's up to the mother to tell them of the change to her child's status, but if the mother is still claiming child benefit the CSA will expect maintenance payments to continue.

If your maintenance is arranged privately between the two of you, it's up to you to negotiate with her when payments should stop.

All the best

Do you have a link to either a .gov site or CMS/CSA site where it explicitly says that?

Am still fuming that I was lied to about her going to college.

Do you pay via the CSA? If so, when did the claim start, I only need to know the year that she opened the claim for maintenance.... There are three different schemes on the go at the moment, CSA1 which is for claims started before Dec 2003, CSA2 for claims up until Dec 2012 and the new scheme with the CMS after that date. Each schem has different criteria.

I thought perhaps that the PDF guidelines for each scheme might cover what you want to know, but having just looked they don't. Here's a link to the .Gov site, but the info is minimal.

I would also check out the FAQ section on the cmoptions site, which was the first link I gave.

You will have started on the 1993 (CSA1) scheme, you may have been transferred to CSA2, but not necessarily. I would speak to the CSA - I'm not sure whether CSA1 scheme stopped at age 18, as originally set up, or whether they were also change to be up to age 20.

I was on CSA2. Been reading through the various acts and even then can’t get a definitive answer about the actual date payments would stop.
