Hello was wondering if anyone can help, my ex wife Are now divorced but she still lives in a house we used to rent together. She receives housing benefit and works about 16 hours a week, she said she only gets about 450 pound benefit on a 950 pcm house.
I pay her monthly £1000 to cover the rest of rent and any more expenses the kids want, I see the kids regularly and that.
I have now threatened to stop this moment all together as can’t afford it.
She has threatened her solicitors what do I do ?
Any help would be grateful
Thank you

Has the financial settlement been done as part of the divorce? If not then you need to get that sorted, and it's up to you to try to come to some arrangement, and of not the court will impose a settlement.

Hi There,
.
Unless you are still named on the lease then you aren't liable to pay towards the rent, even if you are still named on the lease you wouldn't be liable to pay towards any of the bills, I can't see what the threat of solicitors is about as there isn't much she can do as you are now divorced.
.
Assuming that the divorce and finances are all settled, then my advice would be to go to CMS and ask them to calculate what you should pay, that would then be all you would have to pay,,,,,as said unless you are still named on the rental agreement.
.
A couple of things to note though, if the divorce has be fully completed and finances have been dealt with, then if it was written into the divorce that you pay her £1000 a month then that would have to remain in place for at least 12 months as that is how long the court have a ruling on payments for child maintenance which I assume is what you are paying her for, if the payment of £1000 a month isn't listed as child maintenance then ensure that when it's transferred to her that it is as this shows you are paying her, and she couldn't then claim you weren't.
