[Solved] How much to pay?

Hi all, I work as a lorry driver and as part of my salary I am paid night out money to cover any expenses incurred whilst working away from home. This is none taxable and is only paid if I stay out. On top of this I get a tax free daily meal allownce for every shift I work.

I have a private arrangement with my ex and have always paid above the recommended amount. I want to reduce the amount I pay.

When working out the new payments do I have to count the allowencies I receive as part of my gross income? These are a regular payment on my payslips

I would imagine, if they’re accounted on your wage slips, it should probably be counted, but as I don’t have much knowledge of maintenance matters, I could well be wrong. Perhaps you could give the CMS a call and ask them to clarify.

Also not fully sure, but have lots of experience of CMS as Director of company. I believe it is taxable income that counts and these would be classed as expenses, not income.

But as Mojo says, it does no harm in phoning CMS and asking them....

Good morning this is just my 2 cents,

I would give CMS a call find out what the difference to what your paying now to what it could be is if your talking a fiver a week I wouldn't bother reducing payment.

From experience this makes an okay relationship with your ex to a bad once in most cases and may prompt her to make a CMS claim then your salary will be reviewed every year along with a cold ex it's not worth it.

Get to the child age of 16 or 18 then have a party lol

I agree with HRabbit - if they aren't taxable, then I don't think they are assessed for maintenance. However, I also agree with danbruno, that reducing the amount you pay, unless you can agree it with your ex, will sour the relationship and she may make contact a lot more difficult, so you have to weigh up whether the reduction in maintenance is worth it.
