hi, my name is Daniel, i live in Europe, I am 55 and have two twin sons age 36 who are my wife's kids and also a daughter age 26 who is my biological daughter. They all call me dad and they are all my kids. I raised the boys since they were four and I have never been afraid of hearing; you are not even my real dad. If my experience can be of help for any stepfather I will gladly share my last 30 odd years of parenting. cheers.

Hi monacomnuemrique,

Thanks for offering to share your experiences of being a stepdad. Perhaps when time allows, you could offer your top five tips, that you have found to be most helpful over the years? Obviously everyone has differing experiences, but there are some things that all step parents will have in common, like,

1) keeping communication between yourself and your child open

2) spending 1-1 time with each child, even if only for 20 mins three times a week

3) offering encouragement and praise when you see aspects of positive behaviour/kindness and respect to each other, for example.

Just a few to begin with, but feel free to share any that have helped you!

Thanks,
