[Solved] " Family Holiday "

Hello.

I am separated as from September 2018, my ex-partner introduced her new partner 11 day's ago to my 2 girls aged 7 and 13. They are going on a "Family Holiday" August 1st which seems rather a short space of time as my 2 hardly know him. He has an older stepdaughter ( moved away) and no biological children of his own.

Granted, they are both aware my consent is required to leave the UK.

I am being "bitter" and let is go and get used to it or am I right to be cautious.?

Jamie

Hi there
It’s a lot to get used to, for you and your girls, but children are pretty resilient and if they seem happy being around him, I would let it go ahead.

If you felt able to, you could ask to meet him, just a coffee and chat somewhere informal, it might help to put your mind at rest.

Your oldest girl will be looking for signs from you that you are ok with it, as she won’t want to hurt you, I think it’s important not to make her feel uncomfortable about getting to know him. She will also keep an eye on her younger sibling too I would think.

There’s nothing wrong with being cautious, but should you deny them the chance of a family holiday with their mum?

I’m sure there will come a time in the future, when you too will want to take your girls away, maybe with a new partner... working together and developing a good parental relationship with your ex will only benefit the girls in the long run... moving on is hard but worthwhile for that reason.

All the best
