hello everyone! Another newby so I hope I'm not askign a daft question but i can seem to find out the information online anywhere.

Is there an allowance in child maintenance payments for driving? i do all the driving and it consists of a 45 mile approx round journey everytime i pick up and drop off my children. Can i reduce payments through this?

Also i now have a child with my new partner so can my monthly amount be reduced?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam

Hi there and welcome to the forum

I don't think there is any provision for expenses incurred however it may be worth contacting the CSA link at the top of the page as I am sure they will be able to answer your question.

Thanks for that. I will take a look. I have seen since that it could depend on distance and whether or not the ex moved away from you

Hi

There is an allowance against maintenance costs of expenses over £15 per week (the CSA expect you to pay the first £15 yourself) - I'm not sure on the rules around driving as opposed to public transport - there is a requirement to take the cheapest reasonable form of transport, but if public transport adds a silly amount of time, then I'd say it's more reasonable to use the car, especially if you need it to take the children places.

Have a word with the CSA - I think it would be a variation to do this, and start keeping a record of your mileage /dates if you aren't already doing this - as far as I can remember though, it's not a straight deduction of costs.

In addition to what actd has advised, you mention another child at home now, you will receive a reduction for the child living with you, can't remember what the reduction is though if you use the online calculator it will work it out for you, just search CSA calculator on Google.
