What to go through a DIY divorce to cut the cost. Have 3 kids od 15, 11 and 5. Marriage has been a struggle and kids been in the middle of it and we decided to separate until i found out she has had a sexual relationship with two men; now i want a divorce. My eldest is doing her GCSE so dont want to drop the bombshell that i know all until end of June.

My idea i to discuss with the soon not to be wife and come up with an agreement. I want to to come up with an agreement of having the kids 50:50 and neither have to pay maintenance for this reason. We earn the similar amounts and she is already looking for another place. Solicitor fee can mount up for no reason if we agree.

Any other help out there for the June 2019 drop!

Hi there

It’s always a good idea to try and reach agreement, it certainly simplifies matters and can cancel out the need for large solicitors fees.

It would be a good idea to start mediation, it will give you both the opportunity to discuss all the aspects of your divorce, from child arrangements to the financial side of things. This link might help you think about your next steps.

There’s also a good website called Wikivorce where you’ll get some useful info about the process.

If you do need a solicitor you can try and negotiate a fixed fee, at least you won’t get any nasty surprises then

All the best

It's always best to try to agree to avoid confrontation in court, it will save you both a fortune in legal fees. There are companies that will do the divorce paperwork much cheaper than solicitors (I've used one about 3 years ago and they were very good)
