[Solved] CSA has Ex earnings wrong??

Hello

I am a single father of a 5 year old boy.

my short question is do the CSA look at tax records or just ask the ex partner what they earn?

for the first two years I did not claim any CSA as my Ex only worked part time and had two other children from her first marriage and no family in the area to support her so I did not feel it was fair, however after she had been going to work full time for nearly a year and found and moved in with a new partner who has a well paid job we agreed it was time she paid, so I went to the CSA but was shocked when it came back that her earning were only part time.

She put this down to not tax year in full time employment and said that it would all sort itself out the following year. I have now had this years through and it is the same. as last year, now part of the reason we spilt is that she does lie, also her new partner is her boss so if the CSA wrote to her employer he would be the point of contact.

I know that the figure is incorrect as it would mean that she is earning less than minimum wage.

Please can anyone advise all the money goes in an account for my son so its him so is cheating not me.

Hi there, the csa look at the HMRC for tax records with relation to earnings, and its from this which is how they work out the child maintenance. I'm a Father of 2, which I pay maintenance for my first. As unfair as it sounds I pay 12% of my income for my first child, so I'm assuming it should be the same looking at your situation to be honest.
I'd contact the csa and enquire just to be sure. They can be quite helpful at times.

Thanks for the reply, its not about being fair. Its about being right. I will hqve to call the CSA as the money seems to be 50% less than what she should pay, I just dont know how that can be possible is they go off the tax, however the booklet does say that the infomation has come from either her, hernemployer or the tax office!
