[Solved] CSA / Child Maintenance Service

Hi, I was looking for advice....I have 2 kids with my ex and have 2 kids with my wife..the CSA / CMS sent me a letter yesterday saying i need to pay £869 per month which is way more than i can afford, I keep being told by them that the only bill more important than their payment is Council tax. I am stressing and it is straining my marriage. I am a car salesman and my wage can vary with commission by basic salary is only 833 per month.

Where do i stand? is there anything i can do?

My ex wont talk to me and has only ever spoke to me through a solicitor, I racked up a solicitors bill of almost £50,000 to get access to my kids and she kept them away from me for 5 years.,

Any help with be greatly appreciated.

Hi There,
.
That does seem quite high, but it will be based on your wage from the last tax year as far as I am aware, so if you had a really strong sales performance last year, it will be based on that, I'm not saying that it's fair but they look at income in that way that if you were able to earn that last year then in theory you will be able to again this year.
.
I work in the motor trade but not in sales, and I know full well that a good sales year last year doesn't mean a good one this year, in fact one month to the next can be challenging enough.
.
If you didn't have a strong sales year last year, then I would be looking at challenging the calculation, try and work out using the online calculator what you feel you should be paying, remember that it will just be a guide, but if it is massively different then it will give you a starting point to talk with them. you may need to take you annual income and divide it by 12 to give you an average and use that figure as a rough guide, you should also get a reduction for the 2 children that live at home with you.
.
