Hi all

I've recently found out my daughter is close to her 18th birthday has two part time jobs one main and one very casual. She is currently studying at a non-advanced level at college and I'm struggling to understand where I stand in terms of maintenance. If I'm no longer liable I want to re-negotiate terms with her mother so they'll be a gradual weaning off instead of just stopping payments.

Obviously if I'm still liable payments will stop until my daughter has finished college.

Advice would be appreciated.

Hi there

If your daughter is still at college then you are still liable for maintenance.

Generally when a child leaves education payments continue on for a few weeks to make the transition easier. For instance, students that finish at the end of the school year in July, payments continue until the first week in September.
