Hi , i have one child who recently turned 18 , i spoke to the CMS and they said i have to wait until september which i thought was right . My only issue was when my oldest turned 18 i was still paying until December? Surely this isnt right? I spoke to the CMS but i had to still pay .

Secondly my youngest son who is 17 will be starting an apprenticeship in September , do i have to continue paying maintenance ?

Any help much appreciated

hi here is some info:

https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit-16-19

it basically says if child is in a paid apprenticeship, like a job contract, then their child benefits should stop, meaning child maintenance should also stop.

there is old thread about this here: https://www.dad.info/forum/child-maintenance/35549-when-do-child-payments-stop-if-on-apprenticeship

Some apprenticeships are approved, you will have to check whether your youngest son is eligible.

If you’re unhappy with the decision by the CMS you can make an official complaint, that way someone will look at it and hopefully explain your payments in more detail.

You could also ask your MP for help.

All the best
