Question......
I have 2 children and one of which has decided to live with me. when my ex had both children the cms come up with a sum that I had to pay, 550 a month, that's a lot I here you say, don't get me wrong but I belive in supporting my children. Now my youngest is living with me now and the cms has come up with a different sum obviously. But what I don't get is that the sum is 470 a month that I need to pay to my ex, Now does that mean that my youngest child only cost 80 a month to bring up?????? Would claiming child benefits reduce the amount I need to pay? And should I make a claim from her for the child that lives with me know? Anybody in the same situation I would like some advice, many thanks

Hi

The amount you pay is based on your income and it's 16% of gross for 2 children, and 12% of gross for 1 child, so that is why your maintenance figure has only dropped by a smaller amount (though the drop is less that I would expect).

I would say you absolutely should be claiming the child benefit for one of your children (at the moment, I assume your ex is getting it for both), and you do need to open a claim against her with the CMS as they won't do the calculation for you - alternatively, you could ask your ex to close the case with CMS (or CSA if it's still with them) and work out a family based arrangement between the two of you.

Hello,
I am paying child maintenance for my 2 kids for few years now. I entered in a new relationship resonantly and my new partner has a 10yrs old child that is studding abroad with the grandparents and spends the summer with us. I do help my partner with the finances.

My question is douse cma would take this into consideration?

Thank you

I'm not sure on this regarding the part time aspect - does your partner claim child benefit the whole year? If so, and you are living together, then this will be considered with regards to your maintenance calculation.
