Hi Folks
I own a 5 door Seat Ibiza 2008. Yesterday, I discovered that the back door on the passenger side does not open from outside, although it opens as normal from the inside.
Could someone be kind enough to tell me how to rectify this problem?
Can I take it to any car garage or shall I take it to a Seat dealer?
Would it be expensive to resolve?
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
I know very little about car mechanics, so am not really in a position to tell you much about why the door doesn't open, but in my opinion, normally you'd take the car to an official brand dealer when you are trying to keep the resale value as high as possible. On a 9 year old car, I don't think it's worth paying the premium of an official dealer, as the resale value will be quite low anyway.
Normally there's a link connecting the handle of the car to the lock mechanism - it's possible the link has come loose.
If you can get the panel off it should be easy to see if something is wrong - try to avoid the window mechanisms and concentrate on the locks and links going to it and the handles.
Thanks folks
Hi There,
.
There are lots of reason the door may not open.
.
Firstly if you haven't already try the inside handle, try it a few times as sometimes this will work, also while trying it, lock and unlock the car.
.
Sometimes if you give the external handle a good heavy it with the palm of your hand it can free the door up.
.
If you have electric windows on that door check to see if they work if they don't it's possibly a broken wire in the door loom, which is in black rubber going into the door, you will be able to see it when you open the front door of the car, the wiring loom will control the windows and door locks.
.
Although cables can jump off it's unusual for this to just happen, so it could be the lock mechinism itself which is faulty.
.
If you have a VAG (VW Auidi Group) specialist near you take it to them, if you don't check the hourly rate of the main dealer compared to a local garage, a main dealer will be able to get into the door quickly and find the fault, quicker than a local garage as they have the wealth of knowledge, they may get the job done in half of the time of the local garage.
.
If you are technically minded, then you can look at it yourself be be warned it can be difficult to find unless you know what you are looking for.

Hi There,
.
Just re read your post, I was half asleep this morning sorry, so I can see that your door does open from the inside, so that rules out the door lock and the wiring, it will most probably be the door handle itself, try as I suggested and hit the door handle with the palm of your hand, if that doesn't work then it will be a case of getting it checked by a garage.
.
any garage should be able to resolve this as the door does open, so it will just be removing the inner door card and checking the cables inside and possibly replacing the handle if needed, I would look at ebay for handles especially if the handle is painted to match the body colour of the car, if it's black plastic then not as much of an issue.
