What can I expect on my 20-40 mins call with CAFCASS? Any advice would be great thank you
Hi,
CAFCASS would have probably already spoken to the respondent so be aware of that, be honest and straight with them.
They will phone you to get your side of the story, they will ask about why contact had broken down in the first place and which direction you want to take and they will then file a section 7 report to the court. Be careful what you say, dont slate the mother and be positive in where you want this case to go. The judge does ultimately get the final decision but this report does weigh very heavy with the final outcome.
Good Luck
Paul
Hi there
As has been said, just be open and honest with them. There's a sticky about CAFCASS Dos and Donts at the top of the legal eagle section that you might find helpful.
This isn't a section 7 report, but a basic safeguarding report, called a schedule 2 letter, if the court want a welfare report that goes into more detail, they will order one at the hearing.
When making the S2 CAFCASS will also contact local authority social services and the police to find out if either of them have had any involvement with you both in the past., so for example, any criminal convictions will be noted.
All th best
