Spurgeons and Dad.Info doesn’t investigate reports of abuse or neglect. But below, you can find advice on who to contact if you have concerns about a child or young person.

Reporting a concern

It can be difficult to know what to do if you think a child is at risk. It’s important to remember that if you’ve spotted things that don’t seem right, others will have too. Speaking up can make sure that child gets help as soon as possible.

The sooner you contact your local children’s social care duty team, the quicker they can act. They’re available 24 hours a day, and can make an anonymous report if that feels safer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call the police straight away by dialling 999.

[Solved] Choosing a name!

My wife and I are expecting the arrival of little Junior in about 4 weeks.

We CAN NOT agree on a name - we know the [censored].

I am set on a specific family orientated name. She has a few she "likes" but nothing that she desparately wants to use.

Anytime we talk about it, it ends in a bit of an argument as we both won't back down - how do you get over this? There are just no other names (at the moment) that I am liking...

HELP!!

Perhaps one of you chooses the first name, the other chooses the middle name?

You could wait until Junior is born - it may be then that a particular name just seems to fit.

Always an interesting conversation - if she doesn't like your choice I wouldn't push it maybe compromise on it being the middle name.

Do you want a modern name or traditional one?

Top boys names last year were
1. Oliver
2. Jack
3. Harry
4. Charlie
5. Alfie
6. Thomas
7. Joshua
8. William
9. Daniel
10. James
11. Jacob
12. George
13. Ethan
14. Lucas
15. Noah
16. Max
17. Logan
18. Joseph
19. Lewis
20. Dylan

and girls were
1. Olivia
2. Sophie
3. Lily
4. Emily
5. Ruby
6. Jessica
7. Chloe
8. Ava
9. Grace
10. Amelia
11. Mia
12. Evie
13. Lucy
14. Isabella
15. Maisie
16. Poppy
17. Daisy
18. Ellie
19. Ella

Good luck and let us know what you decide

The annoying thing is before we decided to have a baby, we always said we'd use the name for our first born, the name is Cameron, so can be male or female.

Now she has "gone off it" but can't give a full explanation.

Middle names aren't that special as you don't ever use them, in my opinion!

Hi

One thing to consider is how your baby's name sounds when it is said aloud. Does it go well with your surname. Often longer first names work better with shorter surnames and vice versa. Combining a first name that ends in a vowel with a surname that starts with a vowel generally isn't the best choice. I have relatives with are called Anna and Ellen Ellis (what were their parents thinking about - it is so difficult to say)! Avoid first names that rhyme with your surname. It's probably wise to resist puns too. A name like "Holly Wood" or "Rosie Lee" will be fun for about five minutes, not a lifetime!

I hope this helps.

I'm having trouble with my partner with regards to baby names, everything I suggest is 'I don't like that' so i'm taking the grounds of you can choose the first name, as long as we agree on it, and I take the middle name, again one we both agree on, however I firmly reject to have one of her liked names of Silas if it's a boy, no way is that happening 😆
