Congratulations to Kathryn Bigelow on her success at last night's Oscars ceremony and for becoming the first woman to win an Academy Award for best director.

I watched The Hurt Locker on Saturday night and it is truly deserving of the six awards it received.

I think this is truly well deserved - apparently it is the lowest grossing best film oscar winner!!

Cant wait to see it.

imdb has the plot as:

Iraq. Forced to play a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse in the chaos of war, an elite Army bomb squad unit must come together in a city where everyone is a potential enemy and every object could be a deadly bomb.

Strangely enough the news tonight, about deaths of bomb disposal guys in the army, made me think about how that film [perhaps] shows some angles of the work they were doing.
Rather sobering if one of those young guys was your son. A painful fathering issue.

I was thinking the same thing as I watched the news last night and saw the George Cross awards being given to Staff Sargeant Kim Hughes (amazing courage) and posthumously to Staff Sargeant Olaf Schmid.

Yeah, I saw that - Kim Hughes was very impressive, and said he would recommend the job. You've got to admire someone tackling a job which is so unforgiving of mistakes.

Very good movie - showed the day to day living of soldiers in the war zone. They are bomb disposal people. My kind of movie.

Brilliant film.

Need to get it on DVD, must put it on list of films on FB too! Acting was superb, felt like was more documentary than anything else and that really helped portray the characters effectively.
