Hi

Radio 2 is currently running a survey into the best bedtime story.

The short list is as follows:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
Each Peach Pear Plum by Janet & Allan Ahlberg
Five On A Treasure Island by Enid Blyton
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson
The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe by C.S Lewis
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
Winnie The Pooh by A.A Milne

Having read them all I thought it would be interesting to hear what other dads think - which one of these do you think is the best or are there any others you would nominate?

I would pick Gruffalo out of these however I also really love reading "Guess How much I love you" and "Slinky Malinki"

The very hungry catepillar gets my vote. We have 3 copies. Brilliant for toddlers as you're trying to get them interested in reading and it lets me turn the pages fast enough for them to stay interested !!!

Depends on the age of the child i think.

My boys loved the boos THE BIG RED BATH and PEACE AT LAST when they were 2 and 3. GOING ON A BEAR HUNT was a top fav too.

These days as they have reached the dizzy heigths of 4 and 5 😉

From the list you posted I would personally go for the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe as my childhood fav.

Congratulations to THE GRUFFALO which is officially the best bedtime story.

If you have never read this then go and buy it because it is absolutely brilliant.

A fantastic stocking filler for any young child
