Hello,
I am happy to have found this site. I am a dad, clueless and confused with the many security cameras features shown on different websites.
Pretty much I just need to have a CCTV (if that's the correct term) that will allow it to connect to my phone, so every time I leave my kids to the babysitter, I would be able to check on them, every now and then. There were so many features shown like zoom, infrared, power usage, the field of view, wherein all I thought was they are all the same.
I came across this website, which I don't know if it helped me or made me more confused, https://thewiredshopper.com/nest-cam-vs-dropcam-vs-dropcam-pro/ but I just really want to pin down the right camera for me. The site said these are google products so I guess at least I would have some familiarity with it.
Any input? suggestions? I am not tech-savvy, so I need something that is simple to understand and install, but definitely worth the money I'll be spending since this is for long term use. If it makes any sense, I am hoping that the camera would be able to record the video for at least a week, (does the camera record it or the app?) since I won't really be able to put my eyes on my phone all the time.
Thank you for your time reading this and for your thoughts.
Sincerely,
Mitch
hi,
i was more concerned with security outside the house so got a bog standard camera. have a look on ebay/amazon. a lot of decent ones starting from £40. comes with app, so can view on your phone whenever. can choose to let camera store footage on an SD card (footage lasts for a week atleast before its overwritten). or can choose to plug it into a DVR system, the proper way shops do it.
if you want indoor camera, then again you will find so many options on ebay, argos, amazon. read reviews so you dont end up buying a useless one.
Hi Mitch,
We've got Nest Cam IQ. It's a beautiful camera with brilliant quality video and very easy setup. It sits wherever you put it and records what it sees, saving the last five days of footage to the cloud.
We've used it even for watching our sleeping baby in her playpen ( https://www.best-pack-n-play.com/baby-trend-nursery-center-playard-review/).
By the way, I haven't mentioned anything about Nest's facial recognition system. If the camera detects a face it doesn’t recognise, it will send a notification and picture to your phone, allowing you to give that person the once over.

I have one of these . For the money they’re amazing ..
I know this thread is a bit old, but I wanted to chime in because I'm also on the hunt for a security camera. I totally get what you mean about feeling overwhelmed by all the different features out there! I haven't tried the Nest Cam IQ myself, but I've heard good things about it.
