I had never seen this before, not sure how I feel about youngsters being so tech savvy but this could be a great idea for parents to keep in touch with their children when they are with the other parent but are too young to have their own phone.

It's a smart device, only works on wifi for messaging, not calls, and only with registered and approved users with a 'Kid Connect' app.

Might be worth a look?

Interesting idea - can't decide if it's a good idea or not.

This is just what I am after. My little lady is too young for a mobile phone but it would be nice to try and keep in touch a little better on the days we don't get to see her.

Children grow with technology as a regular part of their lives these day, much like the slate and chalk or abacus of my childhood.

In itself technology is not bad, and parents can even use it to start cultivating good habits at an early age. If it's not used as a surrogate babysitter. For example not using the darn things to text, facebook or what ever during meal times or texting mum for a drink rather than popping their head out of the bedroom door to ask face to face.

For those with concerns about surrounding their children with too much technology I love 1stfone http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/07/03/1stfone-mobile-kids-child_n_3539226.html

But it does come with ongoing additional costs. I have also recommended it to parents with teenagers who have difficulty controlling their usage of mobile phones, nothing like loosing a little street cred to make them take notice - I know dads should stay away from youth language, but as long as the Beatles are in the top 40 I refuse to grow old gracefully 8)
