Hi

I think that if you are under 13 years of age, you can't work except if you are

- taking part in sport, advertising, modelling, plays, films, television or other entertainment
- or doing odd jobs for parents, relatives or neighbours

Don't know about paper rounds?

you are spot on jamie - just looked it up and children are not allowed to work before the age of 13 and that i guess would include paper rounds - though im sure i used to do a paper round at the age of 11 many decades ago.

Hi all

Yes the laws have very much changed from my chimney sweeping days - you can only work for a set number of hours between the ages of 13 and 16 doing something like a paper round and even then you need permission from the school. I think that it is only for 2 hours per week at that age.

Even at 16 you can still only work for a set number of hours, and the fines for the employer are as you can imagine significant!
