Hi, Just wondering what your classics are?

Mine has to be The Godfather and Rocky!

Whats yours?

Yeah I have to agree with both of them - obviously love Star Wars and many films from the 80s

But what about old time classics like the Great Escape, Dambusters and one of my absolute favourites 12 Angry Men

Real Classics? Ok try these for size:

Rear Window, North by Northwest, The Italian Job and Being There.

Proper classics.

Don't think I've seen "being there" - but good call on the others (assuming you mean the original Italian Job).

Not sure if it counts as a classic, but Young Frankenstein - worth it just to see Marty Feldman 🙂

Of Course.

Being There - Peter Seller's greatest screen role ever.

You have to think, Classics is an age dependent thing, can you imagine in thirty years people will be calling Harry Potter classic?? It gives me the chills even thinking about it.

On topic proper though, if you want to go classic classic, The Magnificent Seven or The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, westerns are classics always

Not sure whether it's an age thing - I don't think I'd class the original Star Wars or Indiana Jones as classics, but would class Forbidden Planet as such. No logic there though.

Well if you go by the IMDB rankings then the three Star Wars films are very highly rated - and what is the definition of a classic anyway

For me it's a film that I can watch over and over and therefore they definitely are!

For me, I associate a classic with age as I feel a classic is something that is timeless and does not lose it's appeal regardless of how old it is. So yeah, there are plenty of old films that fit into that bill.

I have to be honest and say I don't really have many old films in my collection. The oldest may be some Clint Eastwood Westerns such as High Plains Drifter and the afore-mentioned The Good The Bad And The Ugly. I would also add some WW2 films in the mix, such as Kelly's Heroes (Eastwood again!) and A Bridge Too Far. I have no doubts that the more recent Saving Private Ryan will already be considered a classic and that is only 15 yrs old (I think!) Another modernish film I consider a classic is Blade Runner. I could go on all day, so will shut up, now!

N.D.
