Any other MMA fans? I see lots of football, F1, rugby fans etc; but I'm yet to come across many people that are into MMA.

Any takers? 😉

You may need to explain exactly what is it?

Martial Arts - I think of Judo or Karate - it must be something similar

Yes mate,

I know its an old post. Never mind lol
I've been into MMA for about 15 - 16 years now since the days of Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie. I even managed to get the wife into it after making her sit through St Pierre jabbing his way through 5 rounds to beat Koscheck.

Its a shame we're going away on Sunday because the UFC is in Nottingham next Saturday

Slightly deviating from the subject but I was watching wrestling with my youngest and then I got onto the subject of wrestling in the 70s - have a look!!!

He thought it was hilarious

Hands up those that remember watching it on World of Sport on a Saturday afternoon?

ME! ME! ME!

I used to watch the old wrestling wasn't big daddy's name shirley or something?

I seem to remember he retired after landing on another wrestler belly flop style badly and blamed himself for him dying.

I'm showing my age now (and memory for odd facts  ) but I was only a young lad when I watched this honest!!!

I would love to join in with this thread but you guys appear to be speaking in a different language

Ok who can explain Mixed Martial Arts to me in simple terms but so I also understand exactly what muay thai (is it not a green curry), K1 and wing chun are.

enquiring minds would like to know.

Gooner :cheer:

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a fighting style that uses any combination of striking eg boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Karate etc, Wrestling for takedowns and takedown defense and Ju Jitsu, Brazillian Ju Jitsu for submissions eg chokes, arm locks, leg locks. In MMA the fight is usually taken place in a cage for fighter safety to stop them falling out of the fight arena like a boxing ring (although fights in boxing rings are common place). The fighters can fight standing or on the ground and win by KO, Ground and Pound (where you can strike your opponent while on top of them), Submission (making your opponent tap out) or by decision.

Muay Thai or Thai Boxing is Thailand's equivalent of Kickboxing. In Thai Boxing you can Kick your opponent from the legs up to the head, punch, elbow and knee.

K1 is oriental style Kickboxing and can kick your opponent from the legs up to the head, punch and knee.

I've got bored of MMA mainly due to the amount of show that are on and the UFC putting a show on pretty much every week. I've gone back to my roots and watch a lot of K1. Glory is a good show

Well done on the win fella. I've just started BJJ and had 4 lessons and I'm being thrown around like a rag doll [censored]. It goes to show that everything I thought I knew doesn't mean a thing against guys of proper standing. The upside is I've gone home every night with a massive grin on my face lol

Thank you mate 🙂 lol yea i can imagine, every category has different technique and style to how they train/fight, takes getting use to but you get there, was the same when i first started going muay thai, i remember one sparring session i got kicked in the head followed by a punch in the nose then blood pissed out everywhere, taught me a lesson, but other guys were a bit cross as i was only a beginner and he has a lot of experience...i didnt care tho tbh lol
