Sad to see Dalglish go but it had to happen - a disappointing season on many fronts.

Brendan Rodgers could be an inspired choice - he sets his teams up to play football in a positive attractive manner and I wish him the very best for the job

Apparently one of the players said they wanted Rafa to return - my suggestion to him is get the cv ready son your time is up!!!

I agree - Swansea played some lovely football this season...so Rogers is gone...Norwich played some great stuff...so Lambert gone to Villa...seems these clubs can't win! Play badly, go down, play well, lose the boss.

And that my friend is how the smaller clubs survive financially - I hope they both find a good manager as they have been a very welcome addition to the Premier League

However they could both be in trouble

Brendan Rogers has got nothing to lose. A bit like Roy Hodgson. PLay badly and, well everyone expected it, play well and suddenly it was a genius appointment. I think Rogers will do okay as long as he's given at least 3 years to rebuild. And they need to get better every year.

On another note, losing Dirk Kuyt was a bummer. You know someones not happy when they choose to leave for Fenerbace!!

Yeah I agree - Kuyt was a great player for Liverpool but overlooked by Dalglish

Wonder who will be next

I don't know whose leaving but it seems Joe Cole is returning. Its seems LFC have lost a bit of their 'big club clout'!

So Brendan has made his first purchase - lets hope Barini can be as great as some of Rodgers purchases while at Swansea

Looks like Andy Carroll is on his way out and at a massive loss - shame as I think he could be a great player - but Liverpool will never play in a style to suit him

Terrible decision by Rodgers. However it might not be true as i havent heard him say anything publicly. He has to give him a go. He's hard to defend against at least.

I actually think he should go - he was a poor buy and we cannot accommodate him - I just hope we can get back some of the £35million

Well one game in and it appears that Brendan has had a very big introduction to the pressure of being the manager of Liverpool

Apparently he lost his first game in charge of Swansea also

He definitely needs to buy a centre back or two especially as one of them maybe suspended if they keep getting sent off!

So now in a relegation position and the worst start to a season for many many years, no forwards apart from Suarez (who apparently needs 10 shots for every goal), Barini (unproven) and possibly my mother (as he has no-one else)

We so far have been stuffed by West Brom, threw away 2 points against Man City and were outplayed by flippin' Arsenal

Where is the silver lining???

Its terrible. I might start following rugby instead.
I've also got a Daily Telegraph fantasy team which are doing even worse. Still, at least we've got a week off for internationals.

All we need now is for Gerrard to break a leg and then we'll get relegated! :boohoo:

Well what a week for Liverpool football club - at last some justice has been done and I hope that the South Yorkshire Police are fully investigated. The Liverpool fans should never have been blamed and to be accused of what they were was wrong!

It was a tragedy - a day I will never forget

What a load of rubbish - dominated the first half, player sent off (albeit a poor player who should never be allowed to visit Liverpool let alone play for them), dodgy penalty.

It won't be long before we get three points but my grey hairs are getting greyer!!!

I think Brendan just needs time, he is changing the way you play - giving youth a chance.

I think Sterling is an outstanding prospect, I admit I was a little confused by you letting Carroll and not having a replacement brought in but I think you guys were let down by Dempsey - who looked like he was signing for you and then at the last moment went to the Tiny Totts instead.

Kind of imagine with Dempsey you may have done a little better than you are at the moment.

Must feel odd at the moment with Everton's start to the season........

I think that for many Liverpool fans they see this as the true "rebuilding" season - there is no expectation that we will challenge but I think we need to build a squad that will challenge in the coming seasons.

There is also a lot going on off the pitch and for many football is actually not the most important thing.

I agree about Andy Carroll - Luis Suarez is great but we needed a plan B

And now that Italian lads gone and broken his foot! Its time to bring Carroll back! If he's only on loan, surely we can decide when to get him back.

I do have fiath in Brendan Rodgers but apparently on that tv show about the behind the scenes of LFC, he's a bit of an ol' big 'ead. Maybe he needs to be??

Not sure I agree - he is confident but he is getting stuck in to training and is there everyday giving the orders etc.

I don't think Carroll should come back - I would blood some of the reserves and give them some experience.

On the bright side - Anfield is looking to increase its capacity to 60,000 - should take five years off the season ticket waiting list

A disappointing end to the derby - great goal ruled out which would have given us 3 points - albeit it undeserved

I am worried that Suarez is getting a lot of stick at the moment and if it continues he will leave the club and go to someone like Real Madrid

He is a great player but will also court controversy and he isn't helping his own cause!

Another poor result on Sunday 19 shots one goal - it is getting silly and we play Chelsea next week

Roy Hodgson only lasted to January and his results were better that Rodgers - whilst we need to keep the faith we also need to actually believe that this is the right direction and at the moment I am not sure!

Another poor result and I am beginning to wonder just how much more the fans will put up with - I am pretty sure that Roy Hodgson had better results

We need to make some good buys in the transfer window - we definitely need a striker to support Suarez

Anyway I am hoping that 2013 will bring us more success (or should I say some success!!!)

Nothing would surprise me at the moment - one week we are ok, next game we're rubbish.

Of course, we have already beaten you at your place so it only seems fair that you return the favour. High pressure game for the not so mighty gooners tonight - Wenger is losing the fans and a bad result against your lot would not go down well ;;)

As an outsider looking in and if my opinion is worth anything:

I think Liverpool (club and fans) have to give Brendan time. He seems to be making changes to the way the club plays football (seems to be going back to the possession football that you used to play pre-Benitez) and needs to make changes to the playing staff. With the right purchases in another couple of seasons you could be a regular top four club.

You need a better defence and a replacement for Stevie G (who can not continue for many more years).

Just my opinion of course.

I agree with most of what you say but i would question how replaceable Stevie G is? Of course that fact could become a worry if greater calibre of players are not brought in - experience as well as potential... How are you fancying Arsenal's chances of getting the top 4 now?Spurs aren't looking easy to overhaul are they?

Well not wanting to hijack Mario's Liverpool thread - but........

I think we may still fluke it - but if we do, just like last season, it will be because all the teams below the top two are inconsistent.

Last season we made top four with the weakest Arsenal squad I have seen during Wenger's reign. This season I believe we are weaker......at the moment it seems season on season we have a transfer policy of diminishing returns.

Sell our best players and retain the ones we can't sell because they are too highly paid for the calibre of club willing to purchase them - Squillachi, Denilson, Fabiański, Arshavin, Mannone, Djourou, Park Chu-Young, Chamakh and Bendtner all of who are on 50K or more a week each. Doing some quick maths ..... that's at least 450k a month worth of rubbish. That's without adding in the deadwood that we haven't been trying to sell ( a certain fat Russian, a French central midfielder that has spent his career on the physio's bench and a Brazilian left back)

To be honest anything from 3rd downwards is up for grabs at the moment.

Not a silver lining but i am still confident that Brendan is a good manager - Sturridge is injured and he has been looking really good and linking well with Suarez. We just do not yet have the squad and are really inconsistent - as we have been for years in truth! - but with time I think Brendan is the man. Just hope we can pull off a turn-around at Anfield - Uefa cup would be good for us this season... we won't be getting anything else!

I don't know Mario... I've got a feeling we can do it with the Anfield crowd behind us... I know the team isn't as strong as it will be yet but i think the spirit and belief is there. I'm holding out for Stevie to inspire another turn around in Europe... otherwise no trophies... Look forward to post mortem whatever the result!

... and i was so nearly right! I didn't see the first two goals as I was being read to but Suarez's second was pretty special wasn't it? After that I thought we were going to do it... couldn't have really asked for a better response - though we should not have been in that position in the first place. I am still full of hope for the future under Brendan - what does anyone else think?

Totally agree. If Gerrard has an off day what's going to happen? FSG need to break with the pro-youth at all costs transfer policy and buy at least some experience in the summer in my opinion. Can Spurs be our first top 4 scalp?

Another great result and certainly moving in the right direction - can't see us getting in the Champions League although we are now converting shots into goals and that has to be great

How do you feel about the news that your net debt has risen again?

Net debt increased by a third from £65.4m in July 2011 to £87.2m in May 2012.

It's been caused by player contracts and transfers.

Is this worrying with another season of no Champions League money?

... and then we lost to Southampton. Though to be fair they did play well. Poor selection by Brendan I felt though and Stevie had an off day. I'm off to Anfield for the Chelsea match next month - should be good one i think. Do you think Rafa will be cheered by the Liverpool fans and booed by his own? Could be strange.

Definitely not top 5 this season I don't think. We're too inconsistent (as ever!). The question is will Luis stay? I think it's vital for our continued climb back that he does. If he does then I think we can mount a serious challenge for 4th place next season. If he doesn't I think it's a signal we're not competing with the elite.

I hope he does stay but think he will need CL and therefore may leave in pursuit of that (Bayern Munich?)

I think Liverpool may be able to persuade him to stay for one more year but they will need to take getting fourth very seriously

The top four obviously get into the Champions league

Then there are three places for the Europa league - one for the FA Cup winners, one for the Carling cup winners and one for 5th place.

However it may be interesting if Newcastle win the Europa league as they will get an extra place

So gooner - you won't get anything for 6th unless you are hoping for a fair play award

Should sell him and get David Villa instead and recall Andy Carroll

I don't think Carroll will fit into Brendan's system. I hope Luis stays myself though it was encouraging to win 6-0 without him. 0-0 against Everton was a bit of a waste of a Sunday though! And, let's be honest, they should have won 1-0!?

so anyway - looks like they have agreed a fee for Carroll but, does he want to go? I think he has watched the likes of henderson and Downing fall back into favour this season and hopes for the same for himself. I must admit, with the uncertainty around Luis it does seem a bit of a gamble on Brendan's part to let him go. When fit this season he has been great...

Can't see you getting either Villa or Benteke.

It looks like you are about to sign Iago Aspas as your new striker (though Luis Suárez appears to be a summer target for Real Madrid and seems to have welcomed the link in the press).

Kolo Toure is a good signing. Solid defender looking for a new start and he's free.

What postitions do you need to focus on signing players this summer ?

And the good start continued! A friend of mine who supports Newcastle said to me the other day they thought we were going to win the league - I don't think so! But top 4 looks doable at the moment. That would be nothing short of a massive triumph. I am fully behind Brendan now - I think he is the right man to take it forward.

Swansea away is a tricky game though. Predictions for monday? I'm going for 2-1 to Liverpool late on
