[Solved] Has anybody had any dealings with Virgin Media?

Hi Folks
Hi Folks

I've been with Virgin Media for quite a while and last week I rang to ask if I can exchange my old virgin box for a new Tivo box. The person at the end of the line says it would cost ยฃ100.

I was quite surprised and even suggested that I may leave them if he still insists on charging the ยฃ100. He wasn't very concerned that I left them and was quite adamant that I would get charged the ยฃ100.

Any suggestions how I can round this problem?

Thanks

We used to be with Virgin and they were similar, we asked what was available as a better deal and they didn't really offer anything.

We started shopping around and managed to find a really good deal with sky so gave notice to Virgin.

Low and behold Virgin suddenly came up with amazing deals trying to match and beat Sky's offer.

We declined and they got very persistent and called everyday for over a week getting very pushy, My wife got very annoyed and ended up losing her temper with them.

We left and went to sky our view is that if there was a better deal we should have been offered it straight away and not just to try and keep us.

You could try getting a loyalty discount off your monthly charge instead, in the long run that would save you more anyway. In a way, at the moment, you are arguing from a position of weakness, in that they know you want the TiVo box, so you could do what GTTS suggests, give notice on your contract and either leave, or let them try to persuade you to stay with a decent offer. I did ring virgin a couple of years ago to reduce the package we were on - we don't really need the fastest broadband etc - they ended up giving me more discount to stay on the same package than the saving moving down to the lower package.

I've always stuck with virgin because I just don't get on with Sky's program information system - drives me mad when I've tried to use it.

It sound like you were taIking to someone in the sales team - therefore I would play this a different way and phone them up and tell them that you have been offered a great deal by either BT or sky and that you wish to leave.

You will then be put in touch with the disconnections team whose job it is to save you and they will ask you why

Then you can have the " I want a TIVO box and it will cost ยฃ100 yet if I go to sky I get it for free" conversation tell them that as a result of a recent conversation you have looked elsewhere and found a great deal which you will be happy with.

You will need to be prepared to carry this out but they should reduce the price of the box for you. Not sure you will get it for free but who knows!

I wish we had the choice to opt for a cable service but we live in a rural area, so that means no chance!

Hi Folks

I think I will try & threaten them I'm leaving and that I have got a better deal elsewhere. Perhaps, they would then give me the Tivo for free!

Let us know how it went. I'm with Virgin and quite fancy one of the new Tivo boxes.

The thing that puts me off those is the fact that you can undelete something that has been deleted - if I delete something, I want it gone! It's bad enough having to trawl through some of the stuff that kids have recorded on our V+ box, without old stuff suddenly reappearing ๐Ÿ˜€

And when you series link something - you then have to change all the settings as you get every single repeat of the episode!
