My favourite football team who I have supported for over 35 years cannot afford to sack their Manager despite his obvious failings this season.

I really hoped that we could win the league this season but we now have no chance.

I have to ask can they now afford not to!!!

I know I am clutching at straws but some sympathy would be nice!

Hi Super Depressed Mario

Well Liverpool are in a diabolical situation because last season they over played gerrard and torres and yes even though it nearly got you
guys somewhere, this season its taking its toll.

Last season and some parts of this gerrard and torres were playing with to much pain injections, i guess thats why when you look at the pair
this season there always out.

Of course they are - they want to play for a club that isn't broke and where they have a realistic chance of winning things......Torres should look no further than the mighty Arsenal......we're like signing players from small clubs and giving them a chance at the big time 😆

Hi Babel Fish

Have you woken up from your dream yet?????

I think Torres may go at the end of the World cup if Liverpool havent got into the Champions League.

For Gerard I am not sure dont think he could play for another English club and not sure if he will want to play abroard.

Could he be the greatest player never to win the league?

I can't see Gerrard staying if LFC don't qualify for Europe next year. His body language gives it all away, he's not a happy bunny. However after all the flack he got when he was considering going to CFC a few years back, including hate mail and death threats it will be interesting to see what happens ... Perhaps he'll go and join his old team mate Alonso?

Surely Gus Hiddink now that he has left the Russian post and I am hoping he is keen to return to the Premier league

Mind you if he saw us versus Man City he may re-consider!

A while back you were looking out of the race for cl football, you've kind of improved of late but after watching the Uefa cup tie last week it seems there is something missing from the team. Also the crowd were quiet I thought until the goal went in and that's very unusual for Anfield.

What a great week for football

Watched Arsenal get 5, Man U get 4 and Liverpool play for 180 minutes and not look like scoring

Reckon if I get my kit out I would stand a chance of a game!!

Hate to say it as i've always quite liked Liverpool but there seems to be something very wrong,I watched the Europa league game last week and it just wasn't what you excpect from Liverpool,I feel that this Pompey game is massive for them as fourth spot is starting to run away.

Hi

I do think that football is a harsh game - Liverpool fans like myself calling for the Manager's head because he is struggling to finish in the top four when in reality they should be challenging for the title.

Spare a thought for Phil Brown of Hull who was always going to be sacked this season - a club fighting well over their weight but due to the greedy nature of the game is sacrificed!! the guy has done an incredible job for the club, and re-energised the city. Imagine if that happened in the real world...

Well apart from losing to Man-u which is no disgrace Liverpool have started to get back on track, the Lille game last week was more like the Liverpool of old and Torres looks like he's going to score a bucketload beetween now and the end of the season-if he can resist kicking penalty spots off like yesterday.. 😆

How can you say losing to Man U is not a disgrace!!!

It just shows the gulf between the two teams and if I was being honest how many Liverpool players would get into the United team?

Reina - yes
Torres - yes

but even Gerard would struggle this season

what about Babel - he would not be certain of a start for Luton let alone Liverpool

Yet another season of under-achieving!! At least I can look forward to the World Cup or Wimbledon

Latest news is that Juventus have offered Benitez a four year deal worth £16million and a £70m transfer fund to lure him away from Anfield. It must seem an attractive proposition especially as the club are debt-free and on schedule to move into a new stadium next year after being given land to build on.

Hi

Many people say that Liverpool can't afford to sack Benitez - my view is they can't afford to keep him. Not being in the Champions League will cost the club millions and if they lose Gerard and Torres then that will be a disaster. They need to win something next season or they run the risk of falling so far behind the others that mid table could be reality.

Benitez will leave and I think he should be sacked immediately after the last game in order for the new manager to get rid of the rubbish players and buy some quality

The latest rumour is Roy Hodgson and I think that could be a good decision - a no-nonsense Manager!! I suppose Jose would be the obvious choice but he is going to Real Madrid if he leaves Inter. It also made me laugh that Gerald Houlier is fourth favourite to get the job!!

well rafa has gone and we await news on the new Manager. loads of rumours, loads of pool fans worried about next season.........but on the bright side at least your away kit won't be pink.

thought that might put a smile on the Liverpool fans faces. Unlucky Everton.

I cant see Martin O'Neill going to Anfield - I think he has his sights on Old Trafford.

Roy Hodgson is fast becoming the favourite - but then I read that Sven was interested!! Lock up your daughters or secretaries!!

I would love to see Dalglish return but I dont think he will put his reputation on the line. Whoever comes in is in for a torrid time with no money and the possible exits of Gerard (who will go to Man City if he has any sense) and Torres.

At least we still have David Ngog!!

As for the shirt - I would wear a bikini if I thought it would help win the Premier League!!!

Kenny Dalglish has put himself forward for the Liverpool manager's job. He believes he is the man to revive the team but they are still seeking permission to meet Fulham's Roy Hodgson by the end of the week.

Actually the closer we get to the first match and with quotes like "I want to become the No1 in the Arsenal goal. Of course I don't know if I will play but I do believe I will as I played in many of the pre-season friendlies" - Lukasz Fabianski

There is a very real chance that Wenger may start with Flapianski and if he does I can see your lot scoring 3 or 4 - however I can also see us scoring 3 or 4 as well, Arshavin loves playing your lads.

Arsenal are being to just about every goalkeeper at the moment - that will give Fabianski loads of confidence!!

Gerard and Cole on fire and Ngog to convert one of the 30 chances he may get!!!

Could be interesting

Shocking - not sure it was a sending off but it was the kickstart that we needed to get us going.
Reina - well it was a weekend of howlers and to be fair he is among the best.

Three points were there for the taking but I think Hodgson would have taken a point at half time.

I must admit, I thought Cole was a bit unlucky; looked like a yellow to me. But all the pundits seemed to think it was a straight red ...so what do I know! I think it's a real shame; he's looking really sharp at the moment and super eager. I just hope this doesn't flatten him at all.

As for [censored] Pepe Reina ...Mr [censored] reliable ...he'll be a safe bet for my fantasy football team, I thought ...Mr [censored] reliable Pepe Reina ...my [censored]! Even Almunia got more points than [censored] Pepe Reina ...and he's rubbish. Pepe [censored] Reina!

Feeling a bit sorry for Joe Cole at the moment; red card on his League debut, now a missed penalty last night. I'm sure he'll get back on track though, he's a quality player. £20m boy Aquilani's off on loan apparently; makes the sale of (World Cup winner) Xabi Alonso even more baffling...

So the season is 5 games old...

We are 10 points behind Chelsea, having dropped points to Man U and "Lucky" Arsenal.
We have Torres struggling for form and no replacement
We have bought some unknowns who to be fair are nothing more than ok

Roy Hodgson was wheeling his shopping trolley across the supermarket car park when he noticed an old lady struggling with her bags of shopping. He stopped and asked, “Can you manage dear?” to which the old lady replied, “no way you got yourself into this mess, don’t ask me to sort it out!”

Now we are looking at a9 point deduction if the club fail to pay off their debts - part of me wants this to happen if it means getting rid of Abbott and Costello and the Munster family.
They have done nothing for the club.

At least when other clubs had foreign investment they showed real ambition!

The Red Sox owners look like they mean business and hopefully will give Roy a chance, although they may need to look at his tranfer dealings 😳

I think there is light at the end of the tunnel, however I am concerned that it is another American holding a torch and doing nothing for the club and it's fans.

He has some good plans and has certanly got a proven track record with the Red Sox who hadn't won the world series since 1918, they have now won it twice.

I think sitting there on Sunday he must have thought "what have I done" and I hope he gives Roy an opportunity - although I, like many fans, are not sure he is the ridght person to get us out of this mess!

Lets hope so

Your lads are slowly turning it around. Still think you'll finish in the top five and really hope you get something out of the match this weekend.

Did you see that Werner is interested in playing a prem match overseas (the old 39th game debate) - the news report is here.

Looks like Roy is safe for a while though

But I have no problem at all with Roy Hodgson. He didn't build this team, so the fact we got off to a slow start, I'm not sure you can lay that at his feet. Our history in Boston is we don't change managers or general managers very often. I believe it is up to me to support Roy, to make sure he has the tools he needs to be successful.

I think Hodgson is a decent manager and will turn it around for you. I would write this season off as a transition season (trust me I'm a gooner I know all about transition seasons) and judge him on where you are next season.

I think it is indicative of the premier league at the moment - David Villa cost less than £35m to move to Barcelona and he is proven on every stage.

I hope it works - will be sorry to see Torres go but if he doesnt want to be there then he should go. I think his value is also too much however two years ago he would have been worth over £70. (Compared to Ronaldo!)

So Carroll & Suarez for Torres. Good business for Liverpool (I think). Good business for Chelsea. Not so good for Newcastle.

...not sure if I've forgiven Suarez for his World Cup escapades yet. OK. New plan. Sack King Kenny and take on Maradonna. Drag Henry back from New York. And rename the club to LHC 😉

Liverpool really seem to have turned around and are looking quite hot again.
New owners who are prepared to spend.
New manager who is liked AND, rumour has it, may even know what he's doing.
New signings:
Meireles. seems OK
Suarez. looks really good (if he can just keep his hands in his pockets)
Carroll. I used to think he was just a big bloke, who got most of the [censored] aimed at him, but then didn't do much with them. But I think I was wrong. I think there may be some real talent there. Is he worth £35m at the moment? Probably not. Will he be worth twice that in a few years? Maybe.

All you need to do now is keep hold of Reina and take 11 points on City to take that final Champions League spot.

...and for once, maybe this weekends game of blues Vs reds will not be a bore draw. Could be a good one.

Looks like an exciting run in. Looking forward to it.

Poor result against West Ham - Suarez looks good but Gerard doesnt look fit.

March is a big month for us and we need to believe in ourselves

We only play twice in March, Man Utd at home on 6th and Sunderland away on 20th!

And we need to win both or else we will be lucky to qualify for Europe.

Hoping Andy Carroll can make his debut on Sunday - especially as Vidic is now suspended.

Well happy times to report today - A fine 3-1 victory against Man Utd although they will argue that Carragher should have been sent off! Interesting as Nani sprinted 20 yards to protest to the ref and then fall over - Move over Colin Firth!!

It was a great result and may well go someway towards settling the title - although think that Arsenal and Chelsea both playing Utd will be more significant.

Thought that Suarez was fantastic and looks like a great buy.

Looking forward to happier times

Totally agree, Suarez is looking like a fantastic investment.

Perhaps we should rename this thread Good times at Anfield 😀

I guess its easier to count up to 1 anyway!!!!

So another trophy less season - we really need to take stock and get ready for next year.

We still have the chance for 5th place but I think I may be clutching at straws. I hope Dalglish gets the job and has some money to spend in the summer.

Too many barren years needs to come to an end soon especially if Man U overtake us in League titles which they are likely to do.

So what odds on Roy Hodgson "turning over" his old club when they meet this weekend!!!

Might even risk a sneaky fiver on it myself!

Mmm, 2-1 to West Brom. Gutted. Liverpool just can't seem to get going. I think Kenny's doing a good a job as he can but he's so limited with the average players that Rafa bought. Still, I remember a few weeks ago when survival in the Premiership was the main aim!!

It was a poor result and we now seem destined to miss out on European football next season - trying to find some positives in that...hmmm

Wow that was an exciting last 10 minutes - two penalties both of which could have not been given. Think 1-1 was a fair result if only to hear Mr Wenger moaning once again.

In the words of Kevin Keegan - "I love it"

1 - 1 was a fair result in the end.

I found our managers moans a bit disrespectful at the end of the match, especially as he was talking rubbish, your pen was a pen and of course the 8 minutes of extra time is a minimum of not absolute.

Thought your young left and right backs did very well.

Lot easier to count to 0 though.

Another trophy-less season for the mighty gunners. Not even second at the moment. What killed our challenge was the 8 draws in the last 16 games.

I think Fabregas is right in his opinion of the team. As much as it irks Wenger, he knows Fabregas is right. They seem to have the money, they just need to spend it wisely. Actually, they just need to spend it!

Well enough about moaning cockernees!!!

A 5-0 thumping of the Carling Cup Winners - our biggest win of the season and at last there is a real feeling that we can move forward next season.

Roll on August!!

Well another fine victory for the mighty reds and into 5th place something that I thought was impossible in January.

Well done boys now lets make King Kenny permanent and mount a serious challenge next season

Well £20 million loss which considering the state of the club isn't too bad. Apparently some of the debt has been paid off so we should be in a good place to venture into the transfer market

Well done Kenny a great appointment, well deserved and certainly popular with all fans. Lets hope we can beat Spurs and claim that final Europa cup spot.

My prediction is 3-1

Also for Man U to lose on Saturday but to thrash Blackpool on the final day.

I think the title of this thread is now wrong. Surely it should now be 'Hard times at the Emirates'. Things are on the up at Anfield. A couple of good buys in the summer and we can look to knock Arsenal out of the top 4.

Well if we are to start a thread about Arsenal then surely it should be called Wenger's whinge!!

Oh hang on that is already on Match of the Day...every week same old boring story.

About a month ago he said that second place wouldn't be a disaster...what about fourth!!!!

Wow another 20 million quid heading to the North East - lot of money for someone who is still unproven but an exciting prospect

Think that this summer will have some big fees as Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd are all looking for players - and all the other clubs are just doubling their valuations!!

So we begin the new season with a home match against Sunderland and then away at Arsenal - so six points in the bag!!!

Bring it on
