[Solved] Computer Games

Being a dad of 4, its only been the Wii for me recently. And I regularly get beaten by my 6 yr old son!!

I'd love to sit down for the night and play COD and all that. Maybe when my lad gets older I can play him at some decent life-like games!

That is the dream, although i fear on PC would cost a bit.

so console it will have to be 🙂

The Xbox apparently is not for 40 year olds - according to my children!!

So I don't bother!!

And I cannot interest them in games like bubble bobble!!

You should mention to your children that if its not to 40 year old's, then they can pay for it.

Yeah, how old are you??? ANyways, my favourite game was always 'Horace goes Skiing'. I saw this video of it and I now feel depressed at my age. Compare it to COD and I may as well climb in my grave now!

I was from the opposite side - I had a Sinclair Spectrum. Actually, I think it is still in the garage somewhere.

Either that or the game would crash after the first level forcing you to load it all over again. 🙁 Strider on the Commodore was a right git for doing that.

I remember my Amstrad CPC 464 with the built in tape deck as you say taking ages to load, with some games if you didn't have the volume in the right place they wouldn't load.

In fact, not only will they not know the link between the two, they may not even know what a casette is - in fact, they probably won't even know what a floppy disk is, certainly not a 5 1/4 inch disk.

Er, that one's already around - demonstrated a few years back on the gadget phone where they controlled lights, heating etc in a house in dubai from an iphone in London. [censored] if you live in the house though and suddenly your other half decides to take control 😀

Have to admit I really dislike the GTA seris'

They are good games and I understand why people like but there is very little story in the ones I have play, it was pretty much go here, kill them, go here steal that, go here again and kill them - very repetitive.

There is also the fact that some of the less than responsible people will buy this game from their kids - I cant help but think about the child who killed his friend with a hammer a few years ago after playing a game called Manhunt, his mother blamed the game saying that he was brainwashed by the violence in the game. I say why the [censored] was a 10 year old playing a 18 cert game???

We have often discussed 18 games on here - I have a view about my kids

They are 15 and 13 and we let them play 15 games and they generally have a bit of violence - but 18 games are different as they can be bought by adults and therefore anything goes

I would not buy my son a porno mag, or cigarettes or alcohol - I am not a prude but these are rated 18 for a reason.

The more instances we get of these games affecting children of 10 then the higher the penalties have to be

No I am afraid if it is an 18 I cannot justify it for a 15year old - especially one who thinks he should get them anyway

I'm going to assume here that you're refering to the case of Warren Leblanc, whom happened to be 17 (his victim was 14) and the Police stated that the game belonged to the victim and not Leblanc and nor was it the "influence" nor the reason for Leblanc to have commit ed said crime, but lets not let that stand in the way over the media or members of Parliament (actually your username bares a striking resemblence to said Parliament member) trying to sensationalise anything.

I do agree that people buy said games for the wrong reasons and for what its worth they're not my prefered types of games (I have played both Manhunts and each GTA) but the media (in particular the Mail and The Sun) have always tried to use the medium as an excuse for the behaviour of a very small minority rather than looking at the actual causes, its far easier to start a witch hunt than it is to do your job properly and report the facts it would seem (see things like Koreans spending far too long in internet cafe's and dying from over exhaustion and malnutrition but the blame being placed upon games like Starcraft)

You are right about the papers - they will always exploit this if there is a story to be had.

However our kids need to stay kids - and if the games makers want kids to play them then take out the [censored] and gore - it will be a 15 then and will still entertain them.

My kids want to play these games because one or two of their friends are allowed and of course I am a grumpy old git for not letting them.

Oh well only have to argue for 3 more years!!

I'm sort of in agreement (its actually 16 and 18 now as they no longer carry BBFC ratings but the PEGI ones are considered law meaning retaillers can't sell a PEGI 16 to a 15 year old).

I'd always use the ratings as a guidance, particularly if you play videogames yourselves, much like with movies and TV shows you know whats your child is mature enough to cope with. However most of the time, unfortunately (and I see this alot working in retail) the parent who is buying (or worse the Grandparent whos buying and has no hope of "getting" it) hasn't done their research and is just buying to shut their kid/teenager up.

We took our daughter to see The Avengers Assemble, that was a 12A if I remember rightly but I knew she was mature enough to deal with the kind of action that would be on screen.

i'm a pc gamer my self that is when a certain three yrs old lets me and does not want to play angry birds first lol

try EBUYER for upgrades you don't have to buy but if theres something you like you can look at the reviews some people give but i would think something like n.vidia 9000 gts card should support what your doing plus you may need to upgrade your hard drive to 1or 3 tb with 4gig memoery sticks....

i play cod mwf on my n.vidia 8600 gt if holds it's own but i think an upgrade will be in need quite soon
