[Solved] Arsenal
Noticed that Gooner has been very quiet about football & the not so mighty gunners this season. What's up ? To depressed to talk about it ? 😆
More than happy to discuss my lads mate.
We had a particularly tough start to the season but are starting to win a few. Still a long way to go in the season so plenty of time for us to creep up the table.
We have now notched up seven wins out of the last eight and four wins a row so optimism is growing that the season may have taken a turn for the better - however that could all come crashing down round our ears when we play Chelski at the weekend.
I see Arsenal fast approaching the top 6 - think that they really need to be injury free to have a good season and especially Van Persie who is the real key to success
As for the Chelsea match - have they anyone left who is not suspended?
Well colour me supprised we only went and (If you don't want to know the score look away now) won 3-5....... 😀 D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D
Rode our luck in the first half but had an outstanding second half - well done lads
And the "Only sing when your winning" brigade are smiling and posting now!!!
Great win for the gooners - but 4th place is still going to be a big ask
I couldn't believe it when I saw the league table. Arsenal are only just behind Liverpool now.
If RVP stays fit they'll have a good season. If he gets injured in the next couple of games it's be mid-table at best.
Going to be a great fight for that fourth place
Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool or even Chelsea
someone will be disappointed won't you Gooner?
Top 5 this year
1 man city
2 man utd
3 arsenal
4 chelsea
5 tottenham
Arsenal third!!!
Not this season - I think Spurs are too good and will finish above them this season
And I notice you have omitted Liverpool!!! MInd you the way we played n Saturday you could be right
Interesting stuff reading these threads a few months after the final post.
Well Curry your prediction of third looks to be completely wrong, currently can't see us finishing top four at all :}
Would not be supprised to see Wenger gone at the end of the season, if his relationship with the fans dip futher - only a good run in the fa cup and champions league will save his relationship with them now.
So if he goes who do we bring in - i guess is the big question.
That is the big question - who would want the job?
The usual suspects I suppose will be considered
Steve Bruce
Fabio Capello
Neil Warnock
What about Tony Adams?
What about Thierry Henry as player manager?
Truth is who could follow Wenger?
I still think we can get third spurs have a few hard games coming up including against us. i think wenger will go at the end of the season unless we win a trophy the problem is i cant see anyone doing as well as he did i like the style of play and the way the finances r being looked after by him
Going to be an interesting run in.
United or City for the title?
SPurs or Arsenal for third?
Newcastle or Chelsea for fifth?
QPR, Wolves, Wigan, Blackburn or Bolton for the drop?
Who else can overtake Liverpool? Sunderland? Swansea?? Fulham???
Its going to be united for the title - seem to have the right mentality to win the title and city players seem to be lacking.
No idea about third yet - going to be close either way.
Chelsea and Newcastle are still in with a shout for third - wouldn't write them off yet.
Going down ? QPR, Wigan and Wolves
Could Norwich overtake Liverpool ? 😉
Looks like City are going to do it - or at least I hope so
Don't approve of teams buying the league but it will be refreshing to see someone else win
Has been an exciting season with some great results
Looking forward to the next one
It's been a great season - two games left and its all to play for at the top and bottom of the table. Only one team relegated so far.
Big weekend in the football season coming up.
Can Arsenal get the win they need to stay 3rd, Can Tottenham get a win to keep the pressure on, Can Newcastle get a win against Man City to keep their quest for a top four finish alive and also make the battle for top even more interesting?
Who is going down ? QPR, Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan or Aston Villa ?
Loving the end of the season (though may have been a tad more interesting if Arsenal had already made 3rd safe by now  )
Oh yeah and of course can Liverpool win a second cup this season and save face regarding the fact they seem to be a mid table side now.
Any weekend predictions ?
Personally I think Chelsea will beat Liverpool and I think Newcastle may get something against Man City (brave prediction I know)
Gooner
Try this and see how you think it will all finish

Enough of the mid table side - wait til next season!!
So we still couldn't get the job done (and by we I mean Arsenal) - but neither could Spurs or Newcastle.
It all comes down to the final weekend and if we don't win - my lads could finish anywhere from 3rd to 6th.
The title is not decided yet and still either Bolton or QPR to go down.
Big Sunday coming up.
Gooner
Well good luck to anyone who supports a team with something to play for.
I, of course, will be cheering the boys on for a top 10 finish!!!
What a fantastic finale to a truly exciting season
The heroes:
Well done Man City - it was an expensive title to buy but it was worth every penny just to see the look of Fergies face
Well done Arsenal a great season after such a poor start - remember the calls for Wenger to go
Well done to Newcastle - what a performance - hands up those that predicted 5th place for them
Well done to Everton for finishing above Liverpool
Well done to Swansea, QPR and Norwich - is this the first time all three promoted clubs have stayed up
As for the villains:
To FIFA for allowing the absence of goal line technology to affect so many games
To Wolves who got everything they deserved for sacking their manager at such a crucial stage of the season
To Mario Ballotelli and Carlos Tevez who did their best to try to prove that they are bigger than the club
TO John Terry and Luis Suarez - they know the truth, not sure we will ever know
And finally to Joey Barton who has once again convinced the world that he is just an idiot - even his fellow professionals were tweeting about him today (and it wasn't supporting him!)
Cant wait for the new season - City to do it again? Or will Utd get revenge, Arsenal, Spurs , Chelsea or hopefully Liverpool
Ok so Arsenal have signed Podolski - which in my humble opinion is a great starting point.
Rumours are abound that Giroud will be signing as well - happy with that.
My wishlist now is :
New contracts signed by RVP, Theo & Song
DM - M'Villa or Javi Martinez please.
Decent second Keeper to challenge Szczesny and keep him on his toes.
Mange to sell Dennilson, Arshavin, Bendtner, Djourou, Squillaci, Park, Chamakh, Fabianski, Mannone, Diaby and Vela. (which is a scary long list of unless cash drains on our resources)
Let's see where we are come August. :woohoo:
I think that you couldn't sell Bentner at the local car boot sale!! Mind you have scored some goals at the Euros
But advertising on his pants!! That is desperate!
Ok so after early season optimism, the wheels have come off a little now. Two loses on the bounce and a rather lucky win against the bottom side in the league.
Not too worried about the Capital One Cup (or whatever it's called) midweek - whatever happens happens but have concerns about our trip to Manure on Sat. Need to pull our fingers out of our bottom or we could get seriously spanked. ;;)
Don't start moaning about how Arsenal are performing - I for one am not going to give you any sympathy
Think that Arsenal are a great side and going through what every team (including Chelski and Manure) will go through at some point this season
You are still in the top 6 so stop whining!!
Time to re-open this as i have spent the whole f this season being miserable about Liverpool and I wanted to cheer myself up
Anyway what is going on with Arsene Wenger - there is a lot of fans that have run out of patience and even ex players are now saying he should step down or be sacked.
The FA Cup was a disaster and this will be the 8th season with no trophy
And clearly he doesn't help himself
I could bore you all with a essay on how Wenger has lost the plot - but I will not inflict that on the community.
Suffice to say whatever happens he won't get sacked and as he is the second best paid manager in the league, he won't resign.
And when he comes out with statements like we can still come second, I don't think he realises how much he annoys the fans.
Gooner
Well after this weekend I think that Arsenal will try to find him some role "upstairs" to enable them to get a new manager - but I don't know who that would be.
I think Wenger will refuse it though as he is a stubborn and proud man!
There a lot of good managers around who are achieving great things on small budgets - Moyes, Laudrup, Klopp, Hyypiä and even Arsenal Legend Bergkamp ([censored] manager at Ajax).
Imagine what they could do with the money we have in our bank accounts (£153m)
Moving Wenger 'upstairs' would not be a good move, when the change happens it needs to be a clean break.
Do you really think Moyes would go there?
Do you not want Redknapp or even Rafa?!!!
Do you not want Redknapp or even Rafa
I'd rather keep Wenger if they were our only options.
From the sounds of it, if Everton miss out on Champions League Moyes is going to take a year out of management.
Anyway as I have already said Wenger has a contract till 2014, the board won't sack him and he won't resign. We are stuck with him until at least the end of his contract.
Gooner
Unless they decide to pay him off and he accepts
But is that likely?
Interesting times at the club. Could be a very interesting summer.
The club have been hinting that there is up to £100m available for transfers this summer, without the additional money made available by selling players - actually more than hinting, the club have been talking with journo's and various supporters groups and have been putting the word out and about that they are expecting signings to be made this summer and that next season the team are expected to actually make a realistic title challenge. This is a very interesting pr change from Arsenal, it appears that they are putting pressure on Wenger in the final summer of his contract (he would be expecting to sit down with the board in Jan to discuss a new contract) to start actually competing with Man Utd, City and Chelski. It was also made quite clear that the £100m does not include potential wages they will be covered by revenues going forward.
Last season was a real mixed bag again. Whilst we conceeded the second least amount of goals in the league, we still finished 16 points shy of the top spot. 26 points from a possible 30 in our final 10 games was what got us the final champs league spot.
So to really compete what is the minimum Arsenal need this summer:
A decent keeper to challenge Szczesny for the number 1 shirt.
A quality Striker.
At least one new centre back.
A defensive midfielder (Arteta is great but is not a DM)
Ideally added to this list would be a central midfielder, a left sided midfielder, right back.
and Wenger actually needs to be prepared to pay top money for the players as well - no more cut priced deals.
Only time will tell if he is able to change.
I think you could Wenger £1 billion to spend but he won't change his principles - there were rumours that he was looking at Wayne Rooney but he would n't pay his wages.
If Arsenal are going to attract these top players then they will need to meet their outrageous wage demands
The club see no issue with wage demands - the real problem is can Wenger change his spots.
David Dein was famous for commenting that part of his job was convincing Arsene to spend the cash available to him. Remember this is the manager who was content to let Ashley Cole (Arguably the best English left back for 20 or 30 years) leave the club for the sake of 5k a week.
Wenger's idea of transfer fees appears to be 10 years out of date. He has always maintained that he would spend big money on "super super quality" and then has claimed for over two seasons that no one of that ilk was available.
I think that Wenger should be asked to leave the club as I do not feel he has the ambition to take the club forward
But who would replace him?
So Arsenal have offered £30m for Luis Suarez!!
Interesting but I think he wont go anywhere but Real Madrid and Liverpool will hold out for £40m - not a bad return (better than the Andy Carroll debacle)
Not sure, if it was a real attempt to snag him or if we were trying to force Real Madrid's hand over the Higuain. We are in the market for a top striker though..........
Interesting times.....
Interesting times indeed. I have a friend who supports Arsenal who believes Suarez should have been banned for life for the recent bite - i asked if Suarez ended up at Arsenal would that change his mind, he said NO. What are your feelings?
Banned for life - no
Educated and told this is his final chance - yes
Transfer to Arsenal - never!!!
