Hi all,

No not about having the hots for someone at work! sorry to disappointing - just a question about work and it would be nice to get people views and thoughts.

Can you work in a industry that you don't have a passion for?

I realise this is massively objective and that not all jobs require a vast amount of passion, however for example the food industry - particularly the high requires a passion for food, you have to be willing to try new things, go out and explore the world of food and care about what you are selling to people.

Personally I don't think you can, especially in the industry mentioned above.

But what are you lots thoughts?

am I completely wrong and does having passion about what you do a luxury that few are lucky enough to have?

Told you it was interesting......

I did - for almost 5 years I worked for a company that sells data to companies for mailshots (commonly called junk mail, though it actually is targetted). Although I know it's a necessary industry, I was never happy with the fact that I was doing it, even though the people were brilliant to work for, and it felt like a large family at times.

However, I now work for a company where I really believe in the product, and I am much, much happier - so the answer is, yes it's possible, but if you can work in something you believe in, it's is immeasurably better.

Interestingly I am working in an area that is quite interesting but involves sitting at a computer all day long and I really need to get out and about. I would love to do something I feel passionate about but its easier said than done.

Ideally everyone would be in a job they feel passionate about but unfortuantely its not the case.

So, what would be your ideal job? I personally love golf so I'd love to be a golf pro!

I fly a microlight as a hobby - learnt about 20 years ago. About 12 years ago I became a part time instructor and it actually took away some of the enjoyment for me as I was flying to order, so to speak, rather than when I wanted, I only stayed as an instructor for a couple of years. Having said that, those I know who are full time instructors seem to enjoy it much more.

I actually would like to be a teacher - thought about it several years ago but just couldn't afford to do it.

I think it may be something I regret in later life!!!
