So we here at Dadtalk HQ thought we would raise the question who do we think is teaching our kids what.
We would love to get your thoughts on who you think is imputting your children and at what level :ugeek:
Well there's quite a list but the main group of people outside of me and my wife would be teachers and folk at school. What are they teaching him, well other than reading and numbers which is great, he is also picking up their view of life, vocab, right and wrong etc. Its a little scary actually.
It's said that kids learn by example (and mine certainly seems to) so I guess everyone they meet can be teaching them something.
Before my daughter was born, I was adamant she wouldn't be one of those useless 'pink' girls, destined to be someone's secretary. People still bought her pink clothes and toys but we didn't. Suddenly, aged about 2, she came back from nursery and everything had to be pink. How my family laughed. (Of course, they laugh at a lot of the things I said before she was born.) It seems to be easing a bit now. Maybe. Hopefully.
Who taught her that? Probably an older girl at the nursery but who knows?
Stating what is a rather accepted point - TV is a window to whatever 'we' allow into our home...
Clearly lots of learning happens with who spends the most time with a child.
It might be Mary Poppins (that film was a favourite with our three).
or teenage mutant hero turtles (that was such a long time ago)...
KNTV (which I rather like)
etc, all the way to young children watching the DVD that an older friend of the brother - you know: the 15 rated film you haven't even seen yourself... and only realised they had watched when little sister tells daddy.
All those long programs -versus- the snatched minutes I used to have reading books and tucking them in, or in the morning before I left for work.
My kids are hopefully being taught something at school ๐ฎ ) lol
Their peers certainly have a big influence on them too...
Hopefully us......
