CERN are switching on the biggest particle acceleartor on the 10th, personally I think that it's not going to wipe out life - but there are quite a few people who are nervous. For more info goto wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider , or for something a little more dramatic (hmmm, but a little caustic...) I found this: http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/Large_Hadron_Collider

Of course this might be the answer to the Fermi Paradox, that every (space) civilization that has arisen ends up building a large particle accelartor before they get into serious space travel and wipe out their own plant... πŸ˜† 😈 πŸ˜† ...

Man i saw this thing in the papers.

If i remember rightly its longer than the Circle Line and firing particles at high speed at each other.

All sounds a bit like a nuclear bomb to me!

This stuff is way beyond me...how about what would you be doing now if you KNEW the world was ending on Wednesday?

Me - I don't think I would be working right now...

By the way, anyone know what time on Wednesday this even is meant to occur...want to make sure I know where I am so I don't miss it. πŸ˜†

Why phone New Zealand? Surely you would get on the plane and go there...oppps no you are out of time..less than 24 hours to go so guess you wouldn't get there on time.

How about a top 10 list of things to do before you die - looked at this one: http://www.trifter.com/Practical-Travel ... -Die.50475

So far scoring 0/10...anyone found a better list? Or am I just a bit of a girl not having achieved any of these? :ugeek:

I don't think it can have ended yesterday, unless we were all seamlessly sucked through the black hole into another Universe that, so far, looks exactly the same as the other one. Funnily enough, though, this Universe also has a particle accelerator that started up yesterday... πŸ˜‰

Of course we shouldn't breath too big a sigh of relief because they haven't actually collided the beams yet and I haven't heard anyone predict when they'll get round to that, so those black holes might just take us by surprise one day...
