[Solved] The Workhouse

Did anyone see that programme this week? My husband and I watched it today. Very sad really, but all the way through it, we were saying, "and we are heading back that way too" on more than one occasion!!

I always knew that workhouses existed, but then they mentioned when you died, if your family couldn't afford a funeral, your body went for medical science ...and it wasn't just cut as it would be in an autopsy, it was butchered.....ewwww!

Made me laugh when one of the people involved said that the Victorians were warm kind etc. I have always thought them to be strict and very very harsh!!

No didn't watch it, but doesn't surprise me - I think victorian society was fine if you had some wealth, but otherwise you were at the bottom of the chain and no prospects ever to work up. The internet may have it's faults, but it does give more opportunities for people to better themselves in a lot of ways.

I think that things that happened 150 years ago would now be considered barbaric and they probably still go on in certain parts of the world

The media would never allow it to happen now without it being splashed all over the news

I am going to disagree, they are doing legal aid down, all the areas where people without money and need the legal help, the medical situation is diabolical and for the last few years I tell my old man that they don't care about people over 50 any more, and if they would just die quietly without medical help, the Govt gets pay rises, I (when I was working) had to take a pay cut, I preferred to stay in work than not have a job at all! LOL

The bankers continue to get richer

Its been made so much harder for people to get mortgages, I mean the deposit that has to be put down is just ridiculous!

I went shopping yesterday and was astounded at how much I had spent, for how little I had (no when I worked my hubby did the shopping as he did not work).

If you got money, you are okay, if you don't tough luck. I also lived and worked through the last recession, which was not half as bad as this in comparison!!

and so much more..but heck I will get off my soap box again! I just really think we are heading back down that road, and as much as the media will make a fuss, it didn't work in some cases, i.e. legal aid 🙁
