Hi
Heard this on the radio this morning, wondered what others thought.
My son was delivered by C-Section as he was breach, it took a lot of the guess work our of the birth as we knew which day and time he would arrive (we were even given the choice of when) which in one respect was good.
That said I think we lost out on the excitment of not knowing when he would arrive, the whole proccess was very sterile and processed a factory almost, we arrived were shown where to go and then after about 10-15 mins were taken down about an hour later we had our son.
I think the healing proccess afterward is probably one of the biggest issues as not being able to drive or lift makes it difficult to get around and do things.
As much as I can see the advantages to choosing this option not sure if I ever had another child it would be my choice.
And I guess that raises another question what happens if the perants don't agree on how the bady is delivered?
Darren
As far as I was aware, you weren't supposed to have a c-section unless there was a good medical reason for doing so - though a doctor can usually find a reason if they want to. All three of mine were caesarian births - none of the babies engaged (can't remember the technical term, but the gap in the pelvis wasn't big enough) - in fact for the first one, the doctor really wanted to see if a natural birth was possible, while admitting that it would be an extremely difficult birth, but finally gave up on the idea. Recovery was 6 weeks of no lifting or exercise, but that didn't seem particularly onerous at the time.
As far as I'm concerned, the final decision - if there is a choice - belongs to the mother.
For some choosing the birthdate could be a good thing - but imagine if everyone chose the same day.
Which day of the week would you choose?
I imagine the hospitals having a room booking system - first come first served
surely, it would have to be Monday - that way you could enjoy the weekend and then not have to go in to work 😆
Could you imagine the rush for Xmas day or around that!
I have a friend who is having a C-Section and they have chosen 12th December so that her husband gets 2 week paternity leave then the Xmas break!! Almost 4 weeks off!!
Nice plan!!!
I'd have been sad and chosen 11/11/2011 at 11:11am 😆
well, my little man came naturally in the end on 20/11/2011 so sometimes they seem to have their own way of working these things out.
Think I heard too that now every woman has the right to a caesarean if they wish. However, my own opinion is that if a womans body is designed to deliver a baby the natural way, why mess with that if you dont need to. The recovery time is longer, it takes longer for the breast milk to kick it and the hormones dont sort themselves out in the same way, or as quick.
So in short, as my gran always told me, if it aint broke, dont fix it!

I'm impressed with that, any chance he was born at 20:11 in the evening????
nah, unfortunately he wasnt that clever! it was 7:14am, but hey, you cant have everything
Rather than the 11/11/11 could you have chosen the 13/12/11 at 10.09 and 8 seconds!!!
I think holding out for another month is going a little far 😆
well, if there's anyone out there planning a baby for next year, they could try to aim for 12/12/12, means April would have to be a busy month! 😀
