[Solved] The Big DAD Talk
This week our 6,000th member joined the site. To celebrate this milestone and because we think it would be great fun, we would like to invite you to attend The Big DAD Talk on Thursday 6th December 2012 between 19:30 and 22:00.
We would like as many of our 6,000 members as possible to log on to the forum and chat. Come and tell us how DAD has helped/supported you, update us on how you’re getting on or just come and bemoan how your footie team is really sucking at the moment. It really doesn’t matter what you want to share – just come and join in.
Put the date in your Diary and be here.
Looking forward to talking with you all. 😉
Gooner
That could be manic keeping up with all the posts :silly:
But lots of fun :woohoo:
One thing that occurs to me - can we keep the chat etc away from the threads where dads are asking for help? I wouldn't want an appeal for help to get lost amongst the chat.
...Good point actd 🙂
You are a posting phenomenon! You'll have no problem keeping up! 😆
Unfortunately I may not be able to do the 6th - I may be able to join the party a little later when you lot have scoffed all the food, drunk all the booze and I am the sober one who has to listen to you all singing and telling me I am lovely!!
Normal Saturday night out then
Unfortunately I may not be able to do the 6th
1 4 9 16 25 36 49 64 81........ 😀
Can't complain. Are you expecting many people turning up? How busy do you think it will get ?
I'm not sure what to expect to be honest - a few of the members wanted me to chase up some old site regulars, catch up on some peoples stories and we thought it would be nice if we invited everyone back - all 6,000+ members.
I'm here of course 🙂
Hi Actd. You're always here (in the nicest possible way). It wouldn't be the forum without you here. 😉
we're not hiding mate - thought this might be the best thread to inhabit for the time being.
that's a frightening thought. NJ - I assume you're here, I think you're on here more than even me these days 🙂
excellent NJ and Actd - We can all go home now, they have it all covered
Well I am monitoring the live stats on the whole site - so I can see what's going on. ;;)
well, since this is just a get together and a natter, I think both you and I are more than qualified for that NJ 😀
So what time does all this kick off ?
Any time from 19:30 onwards....... gave a large window on purpose so that people may be available at some point during the evening.
well, looking at the people online, there's a few who haven't made it to this thread yet - I'm sure the rapidly increasing 'unread' count will draw them in
...Not so much of a kick off more of a dribble!! 😆
Erm, sorry, I was eating at my PC, I'll get a cloth.

Here's hoping. At the moment the bulk of the site traffic is over on the LEGO minifigure give away page and the advent calendar......with the forum coming in third.
well, can't you put a link to here behind today's window? 🙂
What a great idea - I should have thought of that.
...How are my stats looking Gooner? Moving on up I hope!
NJ I think you are the fastest poster to get to over 700. You're now the fifth highest poster on the site. Top job.
You can always check where you are in the posting rank by going to the user list (bottom of the forum, bottom right of the stats) and ordering the user list by posts (click twice on posts).
.... ... :side: .... :silly: .... :side: ... 😉 ........Tumbleweed smiley for you actd!
:woohoo: Woohoo Gooner ...I'm a record breaker! 8)
Thanks for the tip Gooner but Mr O already told me about that when he and I were neck and neck! He told me you were king of the stats...he was right! 😉
Part of my job is reporting on all the site stats (well that's my excuse anyway   )
In theory, Darren is on here somewhere, but being newly married, perhaps he's been distracted
babel, perhaps it's one of those events that needs to grow - I think Glastonbury started out pretty small 🙂
Well, we have never tried this before - It was either going to be massive or be a bit of a damp squib.
Build it and they will come ...........

I hope so 😉
this is like the beginning of all good parties - they always start slow and the early arrivals always wonder if anyone else is going to turn up, then an hour later when all the drunks have arrived.................... :pinch:
we'll see

LOL,
I seem to be half a dozen posts behind...
by the time i compose there are a couple of posts floating down the ether
Hi all!!
/o
I recon that even if you were texting every member there would only be a slow response to those texts.
Needing to be online in a forum is a little more inconvenient than scribbling a text (yes, i use the swype keyboard and love it)
Have swype on my tablet and find I spend half my time correcting the words it's come up with, but love the concept - hopefully I can get it on my next phone.
i had to stick with it.
Instead of 'aiming' for the correct letter (and making a wiggly path which then got interpreted as 'typing'), I now just lurch my finger around the general direction that i think the letter is. this gives good results.
so, instead of 'thinking' about where the letters ARE, I aim for where my brain believes they should be.
i would SOOO love to just send some texts with the predicted words - I do occasionally - and then send the correct word in a seperate text immediately after: makes for fun reading
/o
it's a way of typing on touch screens -instead of tapping the keys, you move your finger between the keys without lifting your finger off (when you lift off, it's the end of the word) - you don't have to be that accurate as to where the keys are, the program interprets what you want. When you get the hang of it, it can be very good.
i'm feeding 6 mth old baby
what are y'all up to? (before the 22:00 deadline arrives)
I'm sat in my office at home, with the spurs match on the box (BOO !!!!), using my work laptop for the forum and playing FM2013 on my home computer. Multi tasking Woo Hoo :woohoo:
...I'm flitting between the forum and ebay, and txting my daughter about something to wear for boxing day night at Cream in Liverpool... For her not me, my partying days are over! 😆
lol, i discovered my party days aren't over.
But a friend's 50th birthday took us to a down-town nightclub and i managed to get my darling wife to stay there for at least an hour longer than she wanted to. The cherry on the cake was that they played 80's disco music for the first half hour!!
I am VERY comfortable with some House.
however, 80's brings back memories of college, early marriage, and babies in arms
...I've been toying with the idea of a camping weekend for Forum members and kids next summer.....thoughts?
in response to my wide taste in music, my workmate said "what you mean is you have no taste in music..."
antonym lapsed: skillfully identified appropriate language indicating comfortable use of what 'this' 50 year old has managed to use but in a less natural way to the really really young generation :p
...I've been toying with the idea of a camping weekend for Forum members and kids next summer.....thoughts?
Interesting idea - others may already have thought of this and been planning for 3-4 months an event that may or may not be known as the DAD camp. 😉 Details will be forthcoming in 2013.........
@nannyjane: i can imagine my tent alread:
4 year old saying "why, why, why, why...."
19 month old turning on the camping gase while i don't notice
the 6 month old deciding to cry all night long while i pace around the camp site waking everyone up.
yep, i like it...as long as its sunny weather in the daytime
Mr O...I'm thinking who is AntonyM 😆 😆 😆
Dad camp sounds great.... M-m-m are Nannies allowed?
@gooner - ooh, ooh. i can imagine it will be rather like top gear meets the gadget show with everything kid-accessible.
All rough and ready but well organised.
...Well it was a luke warm response, but it was the first dipping of the toe so to speak... so we shouldnt be too disappointed!
Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.... 🙂
Nite all
