Trying to get my number of posts up here really :p.
Is anyone else concerned that the new Pope of the Roman Catholic Church believed that the UK doesn't have a sovereignty over the Falklands (I know it's not the biggest concern, the Airman in me is talking). What's everyones views on this? I feel the UK already gets a bad rap in Europe without a Pope who has openly criticized us...
...I dont think he will get involved in the politics of the Falklands. I also think he's got bigger problems to sort out, the RC Church is in crisis worldwide with the paedophile priests.
He can try and make an issue of it but it'll backfire on him, There is also the issue of the recently held referedum last week that can be taken to the EU. And His voice will become increasinly irrevent as people switch off from beliving in a god
Of course I was looking for everyones views on it (I'm actually Agnostic :p) but it's good to have a healthy opinion,

 that's true but the RC has always had this issue haven't they it's nothing new, wonder if he'll handle it differently or just keep the Church going as is.

It was reported in some newspapers that the Argentinian leadership will ask him to speak on their behalf over the Falklands, not that I'm worried about a new war or anything, It just seems very, I don't know, Dictatory to claim a territory and people that don't want you? And lets be honest there will always be people who believe in something greater.
I saw this and it made me chuckle

The problem is that the Argentines don't recognise the Falklands government or the Falklanders right to self determination. Argentina claims that it gained the Falkland Islands from Spain, upon becoming independent from it in 1816, and that the UK illegally occupied them in 1833.
Do I think the new Argentine Pope will get involved on behalf of Argentina's (Main religion: Catholicism) claim over the Falkland islands - yes.
Do I think it will make any difference - No.
I think the British government are more worried by Brazil's involvement and support for Argentina's claim, as they are a major financial power in South America.

I can see what you're saying Gooner but I think religion has a huge sway in public opinion. Then again seeing things so bad in europe lately I doubt anyone would care about Argentina crying about it :p.
I think the Argentinians can huff and puff all they like as long as the Falklanders want to remain British they will.
The information relating to the Falklands war was released this week (30 years old) and it has made interesting reading especially as there were some in the government that felt we should just give it up!
