Oh Geeeze its school report season, remember ours guys ? 😯
Now ok i was no angel at school and due to a traumatic childhood, education was the last thing on my mind, how to escape the constant mental and Phsysical assults by my step-father was.
Enough of that.. so it is with a different frame of mind, one of support, love and understanding that i read my 12 Y/O daughters school report.
My own feelings are that the last year has been traumatic, a time of trying to settle into a school where she knows no-one, no siblings, cousins, friends from primary, a very traumatic time with her mother leading to her residency with me 70 miles away from her mother.
The reason for writing this is that i feel that not enough understanding on the schools part although they have been informed by me and other services of the past history, have fallen on deaf ears to the extent that most of the teachers comments have been negative to the point that i have called a meeting in the last week of the school term to discuss learning and coping statagies with the school education welfare officer to see whether they can suggest in their professional capacities any ways for me to help my daughter with her school work.
Now i appriciate that at the age of 12, raging hormones and melatonin rushes, make for awkward teenagers, but really do they not have coping stratagies ?.
Do any other dads out there find that the school system is one of target led teaching and the personal approach to understanding the needs of individuals has gone by the wayside ?. How have you approached the subject of an unfavourable school report wit your child ?.
