[Solved] Perfect daughter

... seems that I have one. As well as having stunning good looks (about the only thing my ex contributed), she has just got her A level results today - slightly lower than she hoped for , but her first choice university has accepted them anyway (for some reason, they had originally asked for higher grades than for friends of hers going to the same uni on the same course), but she has deferred this for a year to earn some money to help her through university. So today, she was also told that she has got a job she applied for. She and I are very happy bunnies 😀

What a fantastic result and well done to your daughter!

May need to pick your brains as my son moves closer to his GCSE year!

I'll give any help I can, and will pick my daughter's brains if necessary. I have to say that as well as getting the results, all the decisions on subjects etc were hers - I gave advice when asked, and offered opinions sometimes when not asked, but the final decision was always going to be hers, and I think she made some pretty good ones. 🙂

That's great news! Well done.

We are in the process of booking university open days for our daughter to do Art and Design maybe next year or after a year out. She wants to see Falmouth, Portsmouth, Brighton (seaside theme here) and perhaps two others. October and November are going to be busy months.

Did you find uni open days helpful?

I only went to one open day, and she had already decided before we went that it wasn't one of the unis she wanted to go to. To be honest, I think an open day is going to be mind-blowing to anyone who is just leaving school, so unless something stands out as being appalling, I'm not sure how useful they are.

One thing I would suggest is that your daughter applies to university as if she is intending to go next year and not going to take a year out, and then if she does want to take a year out, contacting the university and deferring her place for a year (didn't even know you could do this until my daughter did it) - that way she has the place waiting for her, rather than applying during her year out.

Hi

Thanks for the advice. We've already discussed deferring, if she gets a place and if she decides a gap year is what she wants. It doesn't seem five minutes since she started at 6th form college and now it's all uni stuff. Where does the time go.
