[Solved] Need to improve my job interview technique

Hi Folks

I've been to loads of job interviews but always seem to fail at this stage.

I'm convinced that I need to improve my interview technique. Could someone be kind enough to suggest how I could do that? Shall I just look at some videos on may be, you tube, in order to improve my technique or go on an official interview training course?

Any advice gratefully appreciated

Hi there

Many job interviews are Competency based these days which means they will ask you questions such as
Tell me about a time when you have improved sales

The best way to deal with these is to almost tell a story in the following format

S - Situation - what was the situation before you intervened
T - TASK - what did you need to do
A - Action - What did actually do and how did you do it
R - Result - What was the result (try to make this tangible

I will generally have 4 or 5 really good examples and will adapt them to the questions I am being asked

Also a great tip I have picked up is before you start looking in earnest apply for a few jobs you are qualified for but don't really want - great interview practice

Hi

I'd agree with SM,

I have interviewed people as well as had a fair few myself.

Don't try to be over confident, and don't be afriad to say "I don't know" if you aren't sure how to answer a question, or ask them to repeat the question again if you didn't understand. The worst thing is to thing you understood and go off in the wrong direction.

Also touching on SM advice with S.T.A.R If you have a story that didn't really end in the best way explain what you learned from it and what you did to change your approach. The person interviewing is human and they know not everyone is perfect, comming acrros as perfect will sometimes put people off as it becomes "too good to be tue" we all make mistakes in everyday life let alone working as long as you learn from your mistake then it show progression which is probably better than right first time.

what sort of jobs are you applying for??

Hi,

I have no knowledge in that field so can't give anything more than I have, just relate your stories to the role and your experience.
