[Solved] Maggie

Many of us are dads of a certain age and therefore grew up with Margaret Thatcher as PM

Without turning this into a huge political debate I fondly remember the 1980s and she was very much a key figure of it - indeed I voted for her in 1987 mainly because the alternative was Neil Kinnock!!!

And it gave us Spitting Image

Whatever you think of her she was a true leader and the only woman Prime Minister so far.

Anyone else got any memories or Spitting Image clips (love watching them)

RIP Maggie

Used to love spitting images - brilliant program. I grew up in Maggie's era. I think (certainly for the first 2 terms) she did a lot of good for this country - I'm not saying she was right in all respects, but I think she was the right prime minister for that time.

I'm very much of the opinion of what she did in the short term was good but in the long term has royally screwed us over, also she did major damage in Wales.

What I don't agree with is the amount being spent on her funeral, with the country already in dire straights where the smeg has all this £8m or whatever it is come from?

It's not so much the money (I assume the armed forces are paid anyway), but I don't see why she should get any different funeral to any other peacetime prime minister.

Should a PM not be entitled to some kind of recognition?

I am not sure I would be happy when Blair dies - unless he is 45 minutes away from the cemetary!!!

I think she should be entitled to the same kind of recognition that all other peacetime PMs have received - so either all ex PMs (certainly the ones who won an election) should get this, or none of them.
