I can't believe that the goverment has rejected the idea that a real father is irrelevant - how can they justify that no male role model is not important for a balance upbringing.. 😡

The times online has a summary of the results of the vote: The Times Online - Women Win Right to Children without Fathers http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article3972376.ece

I think some people would argue that with the current (old?) way the law stood, people could just imaginative ways to obey the letter of the law. I heard on the radio yesterday someone refer to a lesbian couple at an IVF clinic who were told their best chance of getting treatment was to "go down the pub and find themselves a bloke" 😯

Personally I don't go with that viewpoint, but I have some sympathy for the reasoning behind it.

But that's not a problem with the law - that's the problem with the system working out if people are committed enough...

And yes it was made law last night...

I just don't get this one - how can they remove the need for a father?? Are they going to make the sperm next?? What a screwy world we live in??

Doesn;t it come back to a more fundamental question though - what is the difference between a Dads and a Mum. I think this vote misses the point. Men are not women and women not men - and Dads bring something so different to a child than a mum. Sometimes it feels we live in a society that wants to make mums and dads into the same things. Like this weird thing stuff about equal maternity / paternity rights for Dads and Mums - at one level i totally understand what people are getting at, but at another i don't want equal rights, i want to work and earn money to suppot my family. Does that make me out of touch? Am i a weirdo - stone age man??

Or am i just normal? 😕

"Are you normal?" i had a "Neds Atomic Dustbin" t-shirt with that on? Anyone remember them? Kill your television.... 😛

Buzz you lost me with the dustbin thing but I think equality in the workplace or in any other setting doesn't take away from the unique roles of mums and dads in the family. Mum could be the main bread winner with out it jepadising dad's masuline role and how his kids see him - yes? no? Discuss!!! its about emotional and "spritiual" (don't mean churchy stuff but that inner person thing) imput i think.

(sorry should say i'm dislexic and there is no spell check on this thing so you all get to share in my raw attempts to spell stuff!!, enjoy the journey!)
