Or welcomed with open arms? 😉

Many dads say they’re sidelined by family professionals, who address everything towards mothers and make negative assumptions about men’s ability as parents. Others feel supported by workers who really understand dads’ importance and go out of their way to get them involved.

The Fatherhood Institute are campaigning for public services that work harder to support father-child relationships. During the week of Father’s Day (next week!), they will be launching important new research on this subject and need dads who are willing to talk to the press – TV, radio, newspapers and magazines – around that time.

They are looking for dads to tell their stories, positive and negative – of interacting with health, family and children’s services, including:

• Maternity services
• Health visitors
• Nurseries/Early years providers
• Schools and colleges
• Adoption/fostering support
• Social services
• Services for children with disabilities/special needs.

Did the midwives ever talk to you directly about your role as a father, and the vital ways in which your actions can affect your child’s development? Does the health visitor makes you feel like a spare part…or the nursery receptionist look at you like an alien when you pick your child up? Are you a separated father, who finds it hard to keep up with what’s happening at school because letters only get sent to your child’s mother?
