I started my training today (should have started aaaages ago, but got stuck in a bit of a rut. Am hoping my London marathon training will get me through)

*should this be in Sport?? (Not the way I run!!)

Well, it's only 11 days away now.

Training's going ok, not great mind. 6 miles today and Friday, then 10 miles Saturday and 7 on Sunday.

Really looking forward to it, Look out for Superman!! (well one of them anyway....)

I can't imagine running (or even walking) this sort of distance, so I have a lot of respect for those who do. πŸ™‚

Personally, though, I prefer my method of going somewhere quickly dressed as superman πŸ˜†

Ha ha! Love that avatar!!!!

Thanks Gooner, I hope to do it in 2 hours, but my training's been a bit pants this year.

I did the London marathon this year and trained so much that it lost it's appeal when I'd finished, so I've been slack.

just been for a 7 mile run though and managed it in less than an hour.......just got to do that twice (almost!)

Great Charity,

Kudos to you DMT πŸ™‚

Have you got a fund raising page on Just Giving or similar to make a donation?

Thanks chaps!

It was a joint fundraiser with the London Marathon this year and sadly the page has closed so no more donations for this year!!

I managed to raise £3,156 in total which was overwhelming.

Here's my album if anyone's interested!

Super Mario, my costume is all ready for this year, but I may be doing London again next year, and will definitley be doing the GNR again next year too, so I'll gladly stick a dadtalk banner on my cape for those πŸ™‚

£3,156?? WOW!!!!!!!

What a great amount, I know first hand how hard it can be to raise money, I had radio, tv and press coverage when I did a 120 mile skate and didnt raise anywhere near that.

seriously well done, fantastic work mate!

Cheers Danny

The support I got was overwhelming, because it was a charity so close to my heart it was really emotional too.

We had a charity fundraiser at our local rugby club with a band, auction and raffle. My wife did an amazing job as fundraising manager.

Not sure what we'll do next year..........

looked into swimming the channel but it costs circa £5/6k before you even start!! that one may have to wait a while!

good luck with whatever you do πŸ™‚

Forecast is rain, which would be nice if it wasn't for the fact that my costume will weigh about a ton!!

Hi all

Well, I did it.

Not a great time this year at all. It was so muggy and hot, I was really struggled. Then the rain came and that didn't help either!

But my watch said 2:18 (official time was 2:21 but they're always out for some reason!!)

Here are a few of pictures of the day....

Cheers guys!

The costume was a killer (again). After about 5 miles all I could think was "how can I forget how hard this is!!"

Got my next one lined up.......

Anything with the warning: IT IS NOT NECESSARY THAT YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SWIM BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THE COURSE MAY WELL BE UNEVEN, SLIPPERY, STONY AND WET...

Must be good.............. mustn't it?????

Funnily enough, I am thinking of doing an ironman. My only problem is my swimming is awful!!

I watched a program recently about a 40+ year old guy who couldn't swim very well so he had lessons because he wanted to do triathlons. The next year he did 4. I'm considering lessons, but I just dunno!

The hellrunner, in the link above is like the Toughguy series. Through bogs, up massive hills, over flaming hay bails......that kind of thing.

Not sure about the Superman costume for that!!

I was just joking - looks like you got the last laugh πŸ˜†

I was reading about these, and it's not simply that they do these task, but that they do them in such a short time!!

Mind you, the run you are planning looks hard enough (for which read 'impossible' in my case as a brisk walk with the dogs is my limit) πŸ™
