has anyone seen this article ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/200 ... gender-gap ), ok so you probably have now 🙂
The article is about the gender gap between boys and girls at 5 years of age and the fact that girls are more creative and write better than boys by age of 5. Also states that 30% & 20% boys are unable to write name or count to 10 by age 5 (but that is a different kettle of fish on parental involvement)
So is it such a big deal that girls are more creative or write better (in general) than boys at the age of 5.
As the father of a boy (5) and a girl (2), my daughter is much more into doodling on paper than my son ever was. She pays a lot more attention to colouring and such.
My boy, although fine with reading and sums, needs to be nagged to write.
I suspect that she will be more creative as tested within the school environment and he will be more out doorsy and into building things - but surely this the masculine/feminine tendancies on show and trying to change this to bring the two to the same standards is just going against the their instictive tendancies.
what say you?
