Even though the law on controlling and coercive behaviour was introduced in 2015, this is believed to be the first woman that has been convicted of the offence.

It's a really extreme case, the victim was subjected to serious physical and phycological abuse, but it will give men that are in a similar situation hope that they can ask for help and their voice will be heard.

It does show that, at the moment, it really does have to be very extreme for action to be taken.
