[Solved] Family Days out

Hi all

I saw this on the BBC website and it got me thinking - there must be days out that don't cost the earth

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-18834894

So calling all dads - lets post our great days out on here and how you have saved money

I will start this off

Every year we go to Alton Towers - wow that's expensive I hear you say - a family ticket is £130 plus food etc so easily £200 for a day out.

However we pay using our Tesco Club card vouchers which costs us £46 in vouchers (money which I would have spent on food anyway). We then take a picnic and leave the bag in a locker until lunchtime.

So all we really pay for is the petrol - about £40 round trip!!

And we all get a great day out.

This year we are going to the Eden Project too on Tesco and have also done Thorpe Park!

That's great and we looked at doing the same with Lego Land, however the company I work for give points for good customer service wich can be used to buy things from their site so I have managed to pick up 2 x adult tickets for free, then I won another incentive which gave my £50 worth of vouchers that I can use to pay for the 2 boys tickets, then Toys R Us were giving away 2 for one entry when you picked up any star wars lego from store, so we will get in for free with all that, plus I then won up another £40 worth of vouchers so the boys have money to spend in the shop too!! (that's if my girlfroend doesn't nab them for herself to buy star wars lego for herself!!)

I am always a fan of local museum's and parks for a free day out, but love a bargain of buy one get one free, or using the voucher sites for discounted entries.

Hey Vaz

Great to see you using your imagination!!!

What about some days out? Are you taking your kids out?

What about the train - anyone got any tips for getting discounts?

Vue Cinema run an excellent ticket deal

family four ticket, 2 adults, 2 children for £30 or something.

not too bad, although food in drink pushes it up a bit 🙂

Yikes - that's even more than Cineworld, if you book on line, there's 10% off which means just over £28 for 2 adults/2 children on individual tickets. One tip, if you can go on Wednesdays, then Orange wednesday halves that, and if you aren't with Orange, get a pay as you go SIM card with £5 credit and use it just for the Orange Wednesday deal.

We never buy food or drink at the cinema - took my kids and 6 friends to £1 cinema one saturday and ending up spending £40 on popcorn and drinks!!!

We now buy bags of sweets and sneak them in!

I know it's stepping over to the dark side.... netmums have a special days out thing which rates and slates days out, some are free other have a fee....(that's the ONLY thing I go on there for!!)

Local to us Warwickshire

Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve - Contact for fees and activities

Nuneaton Museum - Check for FREE events (loads during holidays)

St Nicholas Park - Warwick, FREE, some rides are paid for though check website

"Raring 2 go" Mag -comes through the school, but think they also have a website. We had LOADS of FREE activities through them during summer hols.

Groupon and Wowcher do offers for your area (we got 3 adults and 1 child into Shakespeare/Falstaff experience in Stratford-U-Avon for £13.00!!!!!)

Hatton Country Park very expensive, not worth the money....... 😮

Hoar Park (not sure exactly where it is) about £2 to get in small holding type "feed the animals thing" kids get buckets of food to feed animals, playground, cafe, icecream/sweet parlour...

Asda, Kids eat for FREE on certain nights when an adult meal is purchased.

Ikea do FREE baby food pouches (Plum) with ANY purchase from the Cafe!

These are places I have visited. I have a 9yr old stepdaughter and a 5 month old son. I tend not to go to "playpits" as they expensive and packed with loads of hyper kids! I have no affiliation with any of these places, just like a bargain day, if it's FREE then all the better!
