Has any one seen that councils have started giving eviction notices to people who have been convicted for being involved in the recent Riots?

Do you agree that councils shoould evict these people?

I would love to say yes, but it's not that simple.

What happens if the looter has a family - do you evict them as well? And even if they are single, what then - do you leave them on the street where they will certainly commit more crime? If they can be moved to something smaller, then perhaps they could be moved, but eviction otherwise could cause more problems than it solves.

I think, assuming they aren't bad enough to be sent to jail, then they should be tagged and a curfew imposed (a long one) and a long enforced community service (something meaningful and out of their comfort zone) would probably be the best solution.

The problem with evicting them is they are in council accomodation for a reason, therefore if they are evicted where do they live?

I agree with community service - clearing up the mess and devastation they have made!

... and then spend the same amount of time again enriching the area 🙂

Feasibility we need to take into account all the circumstances, personally I am in favour where a juvenile or oyoung adult has repeastedly offended caused anti social behaviour and the parents don't seem to give a monkeys, then evict them. Families will not become homeless but will be provided only basic accomodation ie a place nobody else wants to live, may mean others take control of their delightful offspring!!!
Fully agree with community service but make it count, lets have supervised working and stiff penalties for not turning up.

I work in HR and we have had two instances of employees being charged for looting - both have been suspended and may now lose their jobs.

All for a couple of 42" televisions or something.

They might think it was a great night - but what about the rest of their lives!!!

Apparently three out of four convicted for looting had a previous record - does that not suggest that previous sentences are too light!!!

Lets hope that they are reformed whilst inside instead of having an easy life
