[Solved] Britain's press

Have you been following the inquiry into how the press operate - cannot believe the following:

A pack of men are allowed to chase a 21year old Sienna Miller down the street !!

JK Rowlings 5 year old daughter had a note put in her SCHOOLBAG

The press announced that Charlotte Church was pregnant before she could tell her mum!

This really has brought the gutter press to a new low and I for one will not be buying another "tabloid" paper ever again - I will stick to the BBC Website for my news.

If we as the public refuse to buy until they do things ethically then they will get the message

I used to have the opinion that it was a little unpalatable that those who court the press for their own ends then complained when the same press printed stories that they didn't like, or were embarrassing or damaging, but after what has come out of these enquiries, I think the press no longer has the ability to control itself, and much as I am all for the freedom of the press, I think that regulation is now necessary. Following someone down the street and taking photos is one thing, but hounding someone simply because of their fame isn't acceptable. I think it is a great shame as there is no doubt, as the expenses scandals showed, the press do serve a useful public function, so I'm not sure how that safety mechanism can be preserved.

One thing I found interesting a while bakc is that after the way the Sun reported the Hillsborough disaster, pretty much the whole of Liverpool boycotted the Sun and have continued to do so ever since - it does show what the power of the masses can achieve, and with the availability of on line news, I think the era of printed news could be heading towards its end.

I also know for a fact that The Sun newspaper offered to pay Ian Huntleys legal bill for an exclusive interview with him while the whole investigation was going on! They will do anything for a decent headline. Its not just them and the NOTW though. There's no reason to think that other tabloids don't do that and that even the broadsheets don't do that but for different types of stories.

I have said it before but the public have to take some responsibilty here. If they refuse to buy the papers then they press would have to change.

I am sure I can survive without seeing topless photos of the rich and famous and I have refused to buy any of the gutter press for several years now.

As for the Sun - never again
